Have a WASR AKM with a folding tapco stock, which I find to be flimsy. Bought the gun this way and want to put on a folding stock that is rock solid and sturdy like the rest of the rifle. Trying to decide between the following choices (other suggestions are welcome):

ACE folding stock:

Aresenal folding stock:

BoneSteel folding stock:

I am not a huge fan of folding stocks on AK's, but of those three, I think I'd probably go with the Bonesteel variant that folds to the right, unless you have an Ultimak or similar setup that lets you avoid using the siderail optics mount.

I had a Romanian wire sidefolder on a SAR-1 for a while. Folded, it made the gun shorter but considerably bulkier, and it hurt accuracy and speed compared to the original wooden stock. Admittedly, the wire sidefolder is the worst of the bunch when it comes to cheek weld.

I think if I had an AK on a boat or otherwise needed to shorten the OAL for storage, I'd go with one of the folding stocks that give you a better cheek weld---either an AK-100 style (full stock that happens to fold), one of these, or one of these with an ergonomic AR stock on it. All are going to be bulky, though.

I can recommend the Bonesteel. I got a left folder (you can get a right folder) because mine has no optics rail on the left and I wanted easy access to the safety. It's very sturdy and you can put pretty much any AR stock on the mil-spec tube. It does not require any modification and does not wobble. It doesn't lock to the side, but the spring tension keeps it there and it's very easy to lock in place from there. There was also no wait! Got it in the mail in just a few days.

I haven't seen the Bonesteel but I have the Arsenal AK-100 type. The AK-100 folder locks up tight as a solid stock and offers a good cheekweld.

Folded. I thought it'd be fun to have a rifle I could make this compact.

I've been very tempted by the Bonesteel Galil-style stock. I just can't make my mind up if I want a left- or right- folder.

TexAg, can you post a photo of your folded stock as seen from the top? How flush does that Magpul stock fold up to the receiver?

I've never heard of the Bonesteel but they look like a good setup. If you are willing to modify your rifle, I can speak for the ACE setup. My brother and I both put ACE folders on our Romanian WASRs. My brother went with the Galil style, I went with the conventional M4 style. The Galil style is definetely bombproof and solid, and they offer several different lengths, as well as different buttpad lengths and shims to allow you to set up the length to fit you, but it still doesn't have the adjustability of the M4 style. Having a folding/collapsing stock gives you options by allowing you to adjust your length of pull to quickly and easily accomidate body armor or pack straps, or shooters of different stature.

The ACE set up also allows you to choose left or right side folding options. Here's my rifle as I originally had it set up, to fold to the left:

When I started experimenting with the Russian optics, namely the PKASV and the Kobra, I switched it over to fold to the right:

Solid setup, no regrets, worth every penny.

I would definitely NOT use the arsenal one. They are garbage imitations of the triangle folder. The LOP is too long and it looks like crap if that means anything to you. The bone steel is supposed to be strong but I've never used it. Ace folders have been around a long time and are a fairly known quantity.

The big advantage of the bone steel is that you don't have to cut the tang if you care about that.

I think the bonesteel folders might be your best bet. Where as the others are adapted for no modifications the bonesteel was designed to drop in.

Plus it looks cool as hell

Thanks for all of the input so far. I am a little suprised that there is not more support here for the arsenal folder. That was how I was leaning because it looked the sturdiest, but the bone steel def has my attention and looks like a slick drop in option. Maybe I really can't go wrong with any of them, and by wrong I mean buying cheap crap.

The only other option I saw that was if interest was the arsenal solid folder, but the disadvantage I see there is that its plastic although reviews of it put it in a very positive light.

One of the coolest things I've seen is a modified romanian wood wasr stock that was converted to folding. All of the original AK look with added function.

Ask and you shall receive.

Thanks, TexAg!

I think your photo answered my question about the left-folding Bonesteel adapter with a Magpul stock. It folds up flush on your AK, but would not on my 7.62x39mm Saiga due to the scope rail.

Now I need to find someone with a Bonesteel Galil-style stock to see how well it flushes up to the left or right sides.

If you must do a folder get the Arsenal one. I will suggest you look into the VLTOR AR-tube of you just want a non-AK style stock but don't care about the folding aspect.
