Is it legal to hip small arms ammo (7.62*39) to Illinois? Or is not worth it?

Ive read that the person receiving it needs to have a FOID card. As the shipper, what am supposed to do?

You must have the buyer email or mail you a copy of his FOID card and drivers license or other govt issued ID to verify he is who he says he is and is old enough to purchase the ammo (18 and 21). Their picture must be visible and match. The FOID card uses the DL picture for the card so they are exact. You must mail it to the address on the FOID card and both addresses must match. You cannot mail it to a third party or anywhere else. It's not as difficult as it sounds but I wouldn't cut any corners. It's not worth it.

just a sidenote, the pictures may not match if the foid was obtained before the drivers license
The pictures aren't the same. Same state, differnet bureaucracy.
Ammo can be ordered, As you say, get a copy of the F.O.I.D. and drivers license with date clearly visable.
It isn't necessary but I alway include a written statement declaring that I am old enough to purchase this item and that it is legal for me to own this item where I live.

Just need copy of FOID, address *MAY LAWFULLY* be old one on card and not current. Same with DL in IL. Not a big deal at all, if you comply with all Fed Gov shipping regs for small arms ammo ORM-D. Cook, CO. and Chi are just toxic so don't ship there except to FFL-1.

Hey, if you're hot to ship some 7.62 x 39 Soviet to IL, I'll forward my info:D

Seriously bump it along FedEx Ground or (I prefer) UPS ~ no big deal.

thanks everyone for the imput.... just wanted to make sure all bases were covered.

Note that I have a posting for Ammor 4Sale in the classifieds section.

Yup, agreed with NEO-Luddite.

One thing to add.

The buyer may have a valid FOID, with a Chicago address, and opt to have his good shipped outside cook county to a friend or FFL.

Nothing illegal about that. He's obeying the laws, you're obeying the laws.

There is parts of Cook County that are not part of Chicago. Most of Cook County Suburbs don't have Chicago's stupid gun laws.Yet most internet gun suppliers refuses sales to certain zip codes for no good reason.

I'm not shipping anywhere near Chicago.... on the opposite side and southern border of the state.

Can you ship it to Illinois, YES. Does the receiptient need a FOID card, YES. Can you mail it, NO, it must be sent by UPS (Hazmat fee) and it must be signed for by the FOID holder.

Answering a lawsuit in federal court is NOT inexpensive, and failing to answer meas YOU LOSE.
All you need is a hard nose state's attorney in the recipient's location to put you in a world of hurt.

NY and MA have both threatened suites against out of state companies at various times.

Death by the legal bills.

Just fyi: the address on the FOID does not have to match the address on the DL. If you move you are required by law to get a new DL but not a new FOID. You just contact the ISP to let them know where to send the renewal notice for your FOID. They do not send you a new FOID card. I've moved several times and my DL and FOID card addresses rarely match and I've had no issues with getting ammo shipped to me.
