I was told a few months back that the Wounded Warrior Project (a charity that I've given to) was anti-gun/2A in some way.
I have not been able to confirm this or not, so I am in a quandary as to whether to continue to support them or not.

Anyone here know for certain either way?

This breaks my heart. My forever dog wore a Wounded Warrior Project Dog Tag from Memorial Bracelets.

I won't throw it away just yet but once I get confirmation they are an anti organization I will toss it.

He loved that tag too!

FWIW, I'd keep the tag, since the money has already gone into their coffers. Just wouldn't buy anything more from them or to support them.

They do help our wounded warriors, but, like you, I wouldn't help them because of their anti stance. :uhoh:

No more support for Wounded Warrior from me!

What are some other veteran charities that are PRO-2A?

I still think it is worthy cause to assist seriously injured veterans.

if someone does put together a pro gun veterans support list it would be a good sticky. Many gun owners will open their wallets when veterans groups call. I don't understand how wounded warrior project has a dog in the gun rights fight.

I was looking at different charities to donate a rather large sum of money to that was part of a group effort. After reading about WWP's stance on firearms the money went elsewhere. While not related to soldier injuries, the charity Soldier's Angels is a good one.

The last page of the previous WWP discussion that was linked has a few charities on it. Make sure to research them a bit. There was also links to websites that research them as well.

IIRC, there are also unanswered questions about the percentage of funds that actually get put to veteran issues, and the salary levels of the WWP management team.

I still support WWP! I don't think they need to be involved in politics. If there is a question about the money, click here.

While I love the idea of supporting our wounded troops and their families, I will find other groups that do the same thing without politics I disagree with.

It really goes to the heart of the mission any charity organization has. If they are dedicated to the cause, they don't get involved in other side issues. It can lead to problems, ask the ladies about the fracas over the Susan G. Komen for the Cure cutting their donation to Planned Parenthood.

The final result is that they could have avoided the whole issue by staying focused. I see the same problems with the United Way, when you look into who gets the money, you see a lot of reasons why some refuse to donate.

Choose your giving with a good grasp of who's really getting the money, and you won't get surprised.

Thanks for the link, useful information there.

As for "I don't think they need to be involved in politics.", you are correct. But they seem to have chosen to take a side in politics, so they may have to answer to that.

When you take a public stance that alienates a good share of the people that would otherwise fully support your goals, you are effectively reaping what you sow. Out of NOTHING but "political correctness", the WWP put themselves at odds with the very type of people most likely to support their cause, were less than forthcoming about their stance when confronted, and do nothing that many other agencies that don't take an active stance against the shooting sports and gun ownership don't also do. Why support a charity that has a fundamental problem with something I hold so near and dear, when there are others doing the same sort of work that haven't chosen to alienate me because of a political stance?

I'm a member of the American Legion, and my local A.L. post had hosted congressmen and state reps, senators, etc. Well, these politicians were known anti-gunners, and it disturbed me greatly that 'we' would invite someone who is going against the very freedoms that our members fought for. It's a slap in the face. aside from that, I have beef with the organizations stance on other issues, and so therefore will not be continuing my membership.

The way I see it, most hippie ,liberal, tree hugging anti gun types wont support our wounded veterans. They didn't want us to be involved in the conflict to start out with and especially anything remotely related to oil. So they aren't going to donate. The people that will are the freedom loving public and I bet most of them are pro gun. So why WWP would even get in the middle of this volatile political subject is beyond me. I suppose they have it figured out in their mind.

As a soon to be US Army veteran getting out on medical I expect no support for me or my family from the WWP and nor will I welcome it with such a Anti-2A stance.

Many veterans have defended themselves and others with firearms both on and off duty and for a veterans charrity it seems asenine NOT to support the liberties we fought for.

Sounds like a good opportunity to challenge those politicians in a setting where it will be difficult for them to dodge the questions. Perhaps you should keep up your membership, and use it as a tool to get your message out.
