I just got a new hand gun permit in my county of residense here in South Alabama. The office clerk took my picture and within 60 seconds hands me a very nice laminated Concealed Handgun Permit; ever bit as nice as my driver's license. All you folded paper permit holders be patient, maybe your renewal will have this latest upgrade; ID picture and all. :)

I am in, I guess central Alabama, and I laminate my own permit. Two pieces of packing tape and scissors. I also keep a laminated copy inside my jogging belt.

I would not want my CCW to have my picture on it. Just another step in the process.

Loudoun County here in VA gives us 'business cards' that say CHP on them lol. Flimsy paper, had to laminate it myself!

Yep, I have a Mailbox Etc type store near me and had a few copies made and laminated.

Up here in N.Y., my county issues a credit card type permit that is laser printed right on the plastic. It amounts to 2 cards, one with my info the other with the gun info.

WA CPL permits are .001" away from defying lamination and still fitting in a wallet. It's as if the state created a form that is as carry-friendly as a civil war cannon, with wheels. But, superman at Kinko's got mine done, and my wife's. Oh yeah, no picture.

I guess I'm lucky being in Oklahoma. I've had a concealed permit for about 3 1/2 years and ours is very nice, sturdy plastic and every bit as nice as a drivers license.

Ya'll just don't understand. That new 'Bama permit is waaaay better than ANY of those from the other states...waaaaay better...

No thanks.. Jefferson County permits are $7.50, for a couple bucks more they will also laminate them, which I had done. No picture, and I don't care to have one on it. Thanks though.

My first CO permit was a "Concealed Weapon Permit", and it was HUGE. A real PITA to carry in my wallet, as it wouldn't fit anywhere. When I renewed it, it's now a "Concealed HANDGUN Permit", and is the same size as a D/L. Much classier too. Both were laminated, but the new is trimmed tightly, made better, bar coded, etc.

Don't know if this is correct, but the Deputy that handles them told me it was changed to a Handgun permit because some yahoo used a switchblade in a barfight and claimed he was legal because he had a Concealed "Weapon" permit, and he won in court. That's what the man told me anyway.

My Arkansas permit is identical to a drivers license and includes a photo of me on it. Fitting for our government, I'm still required to carry a separate photo ID with my CCL. You'd think that the CCL itself would suffice as a photo ID, but no, it doesn't... oh well. On a side no, Arkansas recently passed a law that basically eliminates the need for a concealed carry license and states that all Arkansas residents are granted the right to carry openly or concealed by the U.S. Constitution. We'll see how it all pans out though.

I wonder if any state will ever get around to just adding it to your driver's license as an endorsement, like a motorcycle endorsement.....

My first original was a thin piece of paper, no picture or nothing. when i moved to another town, i had to goto the police station to change my address. they took my permit, stuck it in a file, and gave me a new state ID style one with my picture and new address on it. and then when i bought a house in the same town, i had to go back and change my address on the card, so they gave me another card with the new address on it. i must say, it's nice, and it eases me to know that it's not going to rip or fall apart. the crappy part though is the pD has it tied to my registration. so when they run my plates in my town, it comes up that I'm a CCW. so even as a "non-must inform" state, they already know...... this usually goes into Q"Are you carrying? why didn't you tell me?", A "you obviously already know, and it isnt a must inform state".... lol

In Rhode Island the AG permits are laminated but are conveniently too big to fit in a normal size wallet. Local PD permits are normal thankfully.

I doubt it. At least in Virginia, drivers licenses, as well as Motorcycle endorsements are issued by the state Department of Motor Vehicles. Concealed Handgun Permits are issued by the local police/sheriff departments.
