Received an email from Lyle Larson, Texas State Representative from my district, concerning open carry. I had written him in response to an earlier post by someone else about this bill, HB 700. Lyle Larson had joint authored didn't pass during regular session.

This bill has been reintroduced by State Representative George Lavender, now HB 56. Again joint authored by Lyle Larson and a several others.

Mr. Larson and Mr. Lavender encourage those of us in Texas to contact Governor Perry to ensure that this bill is included and carried forward during this special session.

The Governors contact info is http://governor.state.tx.us/contact/.

I ask that all of us here on The High Road contact him and try and get this bill on the agenda for passage

Message sent. I'm not really into open carry, but we should have the right. Also, concealed carriers shouldn't be afraid of their gun showing on accident.

I have sold my house in NY and I am moving to the Tellico lake area of Tenn and I plan to open carry in a boat on the lake and elsewhere.

I have NO IDEA what this bill would do. Can someone explain the proposed legislation?

Does this proposed legislation require training before a permit for open carry is made?

My message, from the great (OC ;)) state of VA!
Gov. Perry,

My family and I were recently discussing a possible family move from here in VA to another state from a list of few that my parents jobs might take them. Our family is very big on gun right and when my father was excited when TX was on the list, I had to inform him that TX, contrary to popular belief, does NOT allow the permitless open carry of firearms. This a right we thoughly enjoy here in VA with no criminal consequences.

It has come to my attention that a bill has been reintroduced by State Representative George Lavender, numbered HB 56. Again joint authored by Lyle Larson and a several others. This bill would decriminalize the open carry of firearms in the state of Texas.

Please, with your power as the Governor of Texas ensure that this bill is included and carried forward during this special session.

Thank you for your time and God bless Texas!

Note how I said 'decriminalize' instead of 'allow'. The Government does not 'allow' you to exercise your rights.

I mentioned in another thread that I recently moved from TX to AZ, but I sometimes still forget that I'm no longer in the Lone Star State.

In regards to open carry:

I was in a local Walmart yesterday when I saw a guy with a Glock in hip holster (his clothes, gut, and haircut definitely weren't screaming law enforcement). I walked by the Sporting Goods counter and asked the clerk about open carry laws. Prior to this I had just asked him about what ammo he had in stock (practically zilch here). He stated open carry was lawful and that Walmart has no issue with customers who want to.

I was about to challenge him when I realized I forgot what state I was in. I'm getting old.

C'mon, it will be very disappointing if Illinois gets RTC signed into law before this happens (and yes, we will be able to open carry too) so sad for texas
