Ok, I know that a HUGE percentage of folks here have very little in the way of kind words to say about Hi Point but I have to give them a standing ovation for their customer service.

I, like many others here, never thought to own anything from Hi Point but, after watching how much fun my buddy was having with his 9MM 995 carbine, I had to get one. $250 later, I was having a blast. It was cheap, fun to shoot, and extremely inexpensive to deck out with all of the accessories just for the fun of it. It was unbelievably accurate for a sub-$300 gun and was way more reliable than I had been led to believe where Hi Points were concerned.

Then, the day came when it had a major breakdown. You have to understand that I probably had thousands of rounds through this thing at this point. I finished a magazine and the slide locked open... really locked open. I could not close it and, even after a complete disassemble and cleaning, I couldn't find the problem so I called Hi Point.

Less than 3 minutes later, I was off of the call with an RMA# and shipping address. 10 days later I had my gun back completely repaired. They had also replaced my front sight because it was damaged (I hadn't even noticed) and they even threw in a spare magazine and trigger lock for my trouble. It works great and looks like a brand new gun.

Normally, I am not prone to sing praises for customer service but I really feel they went out of their way to take care of my problem and did so in a timely manner. I have had some very poor customer service experiences with some of the higher end manufacturers so thought it would be great for people to hear about a very positive one from a company that normally doesn't seem to hip amongst the gun crowd.

Thanks for that review of Hi-Point's Customer Service. I own their .45 acp pistol and it is a good shooter and never jams. But it is great to know that if I need to have it repaired they are ready to step up to the plate.

I've always heard great things about their c.s. I don't know why people hate on them so much. I don't own one but I have shot a buddys 9mm carbine and pistol and both are good guns. I plan on getting a carbine one of these days!

Glad to know about their customer service in case I need it at some point. I have their 45 auto pistol. It is feels and looks clunky but it has never failed me and is decently accurate. Definitely a good value.

I think its worth buying one of their [ridiculously inexpensive] firearms because of their unbelievable warranty: No-questions-asked free repairs (of any type) on any of their firearms for life, regardless of whether you are the first or 50th owner. and they throw in a free mag every time you send it in, which pretty much negates the expense of shipping it.

Although their pistols are, in my opinion, uglier than a brick on a stick, their carbines are decent-looking. And all of their firearms function pretty darn well. After I get a decent CC piece and a full reloading/casting setup, the HiPoint 995 (9mm) carbine will be next.

Their guns are butt ugly... But they work, and they stand behind their product. That's a winning company in my book.

I've had a chance to shoot their 995 carbine, and I loved it. I've been contemplating getting one for a while.

I also have one of these on my buy list.....just not sure what caliber carbine.

It's odd that when you go to the customer service part of their website, there are different companies and locations to call based on the model of firearm that you have. Can't say that I've ever seen that from a gun manufacturer before.

Glad to hear that an Ohio company is still doing it right!

If they would just improve the aesthetics of their firearms they would increase sales tremendously (not to say they aren't doing well as is). I mean I understand the function over form stance, but jeez they are ugly.

All this HiPoint customer service praise almost makes me want to buy a .380 HiPoint since I was stuck with about 150 rounds after my .380 pistol from a different out-of-business maker had a weld failure on a frame rail and blew out the polymer frame. (Numrich Arms Gun Parts Corp gave me $20 for the bag of parts and re-embursed my postage.)

Besides, it would make my son's Glocks look good by comparison.

Kudos indeed.

I had a 995 carbine for years. Fun gun, and good for training noobs. Never had a problem, but one day I called to ask a technical question.
The CS lady said I am going to transfer you to engineering dept. I ended up talking to one of the higher ups who was a relative of the owner. Nice guy who answered my question in about 45 seconds, then we proceeded to chat for 20 minutes, and he sent me a mag for no reason at all.

HiPoint seems like a good company, American made guns I believe. It's just too bad their designs are so ugly. :)

Part of the success they have had was due to a partner ship with a local manufacturer. The founder worked an arrangement out with a local machine shop to tool up for the frame of this gun.

It allowed HP (Beeman) to make this gun on the cheap as the fabrication company had some other big contracts allowing them to do this at a low cost.

Plus, the owner is a good guy who works in the factory everyday.

I called one day during a bad storm (I used to print their t-shirts) and he answered the phone... he said the weather was too bad to make his employees come to work, but he would rather be making guns than anything else. It kills me when the ignorant snobs trash HP because I have dealt with them and know they are good people, with good hearts trying to make a gun that the everyman can afford.

It just happens to be rock solid reliable at the same time, is made in the USA and comes with a no questions asked lifetime replacement/repair.

They still are.

I am actually impressed enough by it that I am going to get the .45 carbine as well.... If I ever see one on the shelf again.

I'll add my appreciation for HP here. My 4595 is totally reliable, I have put all manner of bullet shapes through it and it has always functioned. And because it's so reliable I think it makes an excellent home defender.

Hi Point gets a bad rap from the gun snobs. No, they are not pretty. No they are not expensive or made from exotic fancy parts. However. They work and work well. They are very inexpensive. They have an excellent warranty. Would I take one to war? Not likely. Would I take one to the gravel pit to have a fun afternoon (and leave my "MilSpec" guns home)? Hellz yes.:D

Same here my HP 45 shoots straight and I had no issues with it.

I always kind of liked them, I just can't find a useful purpose for one. My rifles shotgun and pistols, have just about everything covered. I guess if I had some land, I could get some use out of it.
Might be good for those folks in Alaska for hunting 1-250 yards if you could get one in 10 mm. Otherwise my long slide pistols would be pretty darn accurate.

I'm glad to see the haters not jumping all over this thread.

I've owned the old style 995 and their JHP 45 pistol. Both are ugly but both worked well and the one time I needed help HP's CS was there.

Glad to see folks in Ohio with jobs making guns.

I am ashamed to admit that I sold my 995. It was one of the best firearms I ever owned regardless of price. It just goes to prove that just because someone has a Ph.D. doesn't mean they're "smart"; cuz that was a really dumb mistake.

Geno :banghead:

Good thread sir. I have never had an issue with my 4595 or 995 either, but I know if I do they will stand behind their guns. I wish I could say that about all my firearm's.
