Not sure if his is the right place but Academy Sports in Huntsville/Madison on hwy 72 has quite a bit of ammo. They put .22LR, .223, and 5.56 behind the customer service counter. Didn't. Really look at the brands but prices were around $3 a box. They had quite a bit I don't think people are noticing it there as the main shelf is empty on the floor. They moved it to stop people from stealing it.

Academy (The ones that I have visited from El Paso, TX to this one in Madison and a few in between when I moved) moved the "popular" ammo behind the counter to control how much was sold. They had a limit of 1 box per caliber 3 calibers per day on the popular ones. The other stuff that was still on the shelf didn't have a limit. I will have to stop by there on my way to work tomorrow morning to see if I can snag some though, my luck it will be gone.

Zaitsev44, the last few times I have been in they have had the 7.62 in stock, they were carrying the Monarch and Winchester stuff.

EDIT:

Larry's Pistol and Pawn has had quite a bit of ammo in stock since I moved here 3 months ago, two weeks ago they had bulk .22, 325 rounds for I think a little under $20, but can't remember the price.

Ammoman has 7.62x39, $279/M. The ammo problem is far from being over but the situation does seem to be improving.

Oh so Larry's is actually selling bulk packs of 22 to people who aren't buying a gun now. They never actually ran out they just stopped selling it if unless you bought a 22.

Didn't realize Larry's was limiting 22. Just haven't seen it much. Was able to pick some up back in the March timeframe without buying a 22. Did see them with some PPU .223 with no limits the other day.

I work at an academy, and they get a decent supply of ammo in. Depending on the week there always seems to be an ample supply of something. Last week(they took 7.62x39 and .308 off the limit list btw) I bought 200 rounds and there was still about 20 boxes left. Earlier this week they got in a shipment of about 12 22lr bricks and I scooped one of those up(they lasted all of thirty minutes) but the smaller boxes of 22(usually 50 per box) are usually there(if they're not chances are they will be within the next 4 days or so).

One final note academy changed their ammo limit policy. You can now buy 2 non bulk packs of ammo in 3 different calibers or 1 bulk pack in those calibers(bulk being defined as 100 or more).

But yes the shortage does seem to be winding down, I see the same 10 boxes of 223(the brand slips my memory atm) behind the counter everyday because I don't think anyone wants to pay $13 per box for it.

Most Academy stores have had the ammo behind the customer service counter, some even before the recent celebrity level shootings. I didn't even bother to look at the ammo when I was in Trussville last time, just what they had in the jewel cases.

When I have been in he was selling without the purchase of a gun, he did have a limit of one bulk pack per day.
