Petition to retract the 8/29/13 Executive Order banning re-import of surplus firearms

Again with the defeatist attitudes here and other forums. Of course such a thing isn't legally binding, but we need to send more than a grumpy stealth message. It's the anointed one's website. Let's use it.

It's not a defeatist attitude, but a realistic one. I, for one, am not going to register on a White House website for something that's never gonna happen.

Realistic to understand such a petition won't change his hate of the 2nd is no problem. But again, since he is constantly underhandedly flipping the bird to innocent gun owners, what is so wrong about rallying up and petitioning him on his own site?

Signing a petition should not be something we are afraid of......and really is not even in the same realm as registration.
^+1 Registration ties the ownership of a specific firearm to someone. Signing a petition does not. As "captain awesome" said, just being here could be construed as a possible marker of gun ownership.

Well, I already have an account (and don't remember what petition(s) I might have signed previously), so no big deal there. And just because it is "never gonna happen" doesn't mean that the effort is useless. Others are watching, like Senators and Representatives, both local and national. Anything that demonstrates the depth and breath of American resolve against tyranny and in support of RKBA is worth the effort.

I signed.

It has a long way to go to get to 100K. But I hope it gets there. NRA and other RKBA organizations need to encourage their members to sign it. I hope they do. There is still lots of time.

I never thought I would be quoting a poster on 4chan on this site but here it is.

For everyone who say that this won't matter (asterisks added over a certain word):

Even if this petition doesn't cause him to change his mind he will still have to defend it some way, which could help us because he would pretty much be forced to lie or show that he knows nothing to defend banning the import of garands when there are plenty of hunting rifles that can do the same thing (such as the Remington 750 except it holds 5 shots instead of 8 and has the advantage of being shorter, lighter, being able to shoot a wider variety of ammo, and can mount a scope). Remember, every politician that spews ******** gives us more of a chance of discrediting that person to anyone on the fence who will listen, the same thing has happened with marijuana, even to the extent of converting people who were for keeping it illegal.

And for everyone afraid of being put on some government list for responding, your posting on this website is already more than enough:

The government already logs all traffic that goes through the internet and keeps it for about a week and are building a data center that could store all the internet traffic in the US for months at a time. If they wanted to track people they are already more than capable of doing it.

No, he doesn't. Thats wishful thinking and isn't borne out by all the WH.gov petitions where the response from the WH is to blow us off if this has already been stated as a policy decision.

Sure, use the WH.gov petitions to start, BUT you can not stop there. They're not useless, but they're not worth much of anything when they're focused on a stated specific policy already formulated by POTUS instead of asking POTUS to do something they've not stated a position on. Since this is a notice of proposed rulemaking instead an Executive Order it can do some good to get the 90,000+ signatures on the WH.gov petition in hopes to derail this goofy idea.

What does WORK is what we always have to do when our rights are threatened. Get on the phone with your elected officials and complain bitterly about this proposed change to the rules. Send them emails. Make appointments to visit their office and complain. Make them carry the water to put out this fire. Pour it on them so they have what they need to get up and do something to stop the proposed change. Go to the public comment page and oppose the proposed changes when they open for comments.

Don't be ignorant of the process of proposed rulemaking and understand the steps that go into getting a rule into the CFR and in what WE can do to stop it. Remember that this and other administrations have tried to get a rule through with minimal awareness of the public by only opening comments for 30 days and we've made a big enough stink on that to get the comments period extended to 60 or 90 or 180 days. Think about fighting to get the comment expanded to the maximum so that the agency can't adopt even if they want to for the next 8 months and how long that gives us to fight along other fronts. Demand public hearings to slow the process down and buy time. Good arguments can be made demanding financial impact analysis, testimony from existing owners that will be impacted by new rules, manufacturers, trade associations, etc.

signed, thank you. I am questioning why an administrator of this board would be against standing up to Obama on a gun banning issue!!!!!!!!????????? WTH? Your either with us in this fight or you are not! Which is it?:fire:

Call and write to your US senators and US congressman now. When the proposal comes up for comment submit a rational and consise reason why banning those guns from import is not a good idea.

seriously guys :/ it takes like 5 seconds to do, I had to register for an account and sign the petition too, if you really believe in your 2A rights, why not make this small gesture? Even if it really will not accomplish anything

Obama is a lame duck, public opinion matters even less to him now than it ever has. Expect the petition to be shut down in short order and some lame comments about "common sense" to follow.

I yelled out the door at Obama to stop. If you cared about your rights you would too.

Trust me, They are already aware of our resolve, most of them could give a rats backside about it, until they start seeing the results of their work reflected at the ballot box, they will continue to ignore our resolve and push their agenda.

By the way, signed and facebooked!
