Do you know how many firearms you own?

Yes... I know exactly how many. I have it written down. My wife has no idea, and thats a good thing.

Do I know? Off the top of my head, nope. I have a written list and I can name them all given enough time, but I don't know the total number.

I didn't know the total in 2007 before my father gave me all of his guns and moved to the retirement home at age 85.

I don't know how many fishing rods I have either.

I have an estimation. I've been building a spreadsheet with gun info but every time I think it is complete, I notice a gun that needs to be added. :)

Not as many as the books, movies or music I own, but like them each one is different, each with a different historical content, even if the history is a just a weekend at the range with me, my son and my grandson plinking golf balls with .22s

A poll might be interesting, as a way of consolidating various responses. The categories might be:

0

1-5

6-10

11-20

21-50

51-100

100+

Anybody up to creating it?

Yes I keep a list, Serial numbers for insurance. I also keep a list of where they were bought and if they came through the family who owned them so they will stay in the family, if there is anything that my son should know about each. I include dates of manufacture and any history that I know about them. I want them to be special to my son or grandson. I also have photos of each

I feel like im always trading... i love guns! All of them... i dont know exactly how many i have... but i do have a system... i keep one safe... thats all...so when the safe is full somethings gotta go...

Not that many anymore---I would like to get a duplicate of each one though.

2 is 1--1 is none

And the new Ruger American .22 is really calling my name.

Yes. I have a spreadsheet of everything I own, or have owned, with purchase/sell information along with serial numbers. I also have a spreadsheet of ammunition that I maintain.

I find that I have to go through the list to be doubly sure of what I have, from time to time. It'll also help in the case of fire/theft.

Do not have a total in my head. Have a card index file with all the info. Really should put it on a spread sheet or inventory program with copies in a couple of places. Illinois just made it a crime not to report theft of a gun within 72 hours. You will certainly need serial #s when you report a theft. Wonder if they know that a lot of old guns have no serial #. In the event of a major theft, it would probably take more than 72 hours for me to figure out exactly what was missing. Wife has no idea what I have. She made a comment to one of our daughters the other day about me having 2 gun safes in the garage. I have security cabinets, not safes, and there are a lot more than 2. Thankfully she can't count.

Yep .... like many here I use a spreadsheet to keep track of everything. That spreadsheet is floating around in space somewhere in case my house burns down.
