Just got my first 10mm pistol in the form of a Glock 20 SF. Now it's time to start reloading for it. I've got dies already, but looking over the powders and components, I need recommendations.

For my 40 loads, I've been using 180gr cast truncated cone shape with HS-6. Works well but the 10mm seems to be a different animal to achieve true 10mm loadings.

What powder and bullets are everyone using? Anyone have load data with chrony readings using the glock barrel they could share?

Thanks guys.

Interesting that you ask that. I was out shooting some 10mm's today.

180 grn MBC TCFP (lead) with 6.8 grns of Unique is pretty mild. 8.3 grns of power pistol seemed good, 8.7 grns of 800x was mid range. 7.0 grns of SR4756 was mild. All are cci300 primers to 1.255 COL.

I will repeat the unique load for plinkers and the power pistol for more normal shooting. I need more powder in the 800x load and the sr4756.

Work up your own loads. These are my observations in my 10mm Witness Hunter and 610.

I don't load 10mm but I've read about it. 800X (it measures like cornflakes), Power Pistol, and AA#7 should all give you top performance.

Blue Dot might be worth a try; it'll be a compressed load and Blue Dot likes that, but I don't know if you can pack enough BD in the case for full power.

I load up lots of 200gr of various sorts. I mean after all, that extra 20gr separates 40S&W from 10mm and you burn a bit less powder in the process. I do load lots of cast bullets so that I can afford to actually shoot a lot.

I absolutely love the way 880x shoots in 10mm. Can not tolerate the way those corn flakes meter!

Moved to LongShot powder and it has now replaced other powder in most things I load. (Had to hang on to TiteGroup for 9mm :) )

I think I've got some blue dot and power pistol on hand. Gotta see if I can find some bullets

Weird. I hear about how 800x is so hard to meter but my uniflow on my pro2000 drops charges that are +/- 0.1 grn routinely. Just keep the baffle in, keep it full and shake it a lot during operation.

I use AA#9 for my 10mm loads and 180 bullets (either plated or JHP). I have some AA#7 that's supposed to be excellent in the 10mm but I haven't worked up test loads yet. My test loads using Unique felt weird so I stopped using it.

Now that HS-7(W571) is no longer in production Longshot is the hands down best powder for loading the 10mm/40 S&W. HS-6 is not all that bad either, you just won't get the very top velocities but accuracy will be very good which is most important anyway. I'm told the new AutoComp is a good choice too.

AA#7 and #9. Both meter very well. #9 gives great case fill and is good for hot rounds. #7 is slightly more economical, and can be downloaded to .40 levels without difficulty.

Don't get to an outdoor range often but when I do I bring along my chornograph. Here's some results from a Kimber 1911 and a S&W 1006.
Kimber shoots a little faster than the 1006, more accurate too.

180gr. Hornady XTP 13.5 gr. AA#9 1230 fps.
180gr. Hornady XTP 13.6 gr. AA#9 1250 fps.
165gr siearra JHP 14.2 gr. AA#9 1300 fps.
200gr. Hornady XTP 12.1 gr. AA#9 1130fps.
180gr. Rainier plated 7.8gr. Power pistol 1110fps.
180gr. Rainier plated 7.0gr. Power pistol 1025fps.

The 200gr. Hornady load was the most accurate.
