Twice in the last week I've read about DHS residence searches where the warrant included "gun cleaning" equipment, along with guns, ammo, etc.

Since when was Hoppes bore cleaner, patches and such illegal?

Okay, I just utilized my best google-fu to see what I could turn up, and the only thing I could find where a warrant included "gun cleaning equipment" wasn't a DHS search, but the Witaschek case that is in the news right now, and being discussed on THR here). In that case, the existence of "gun cleaning equipment" in a D.C. residence was probably thought to be in furtherance of otherwise unlawful gun possession.

I don't think there is anything to this, certainly nothing to lose sleep over. Plenty enough of other nonsense to take care of that (loosing sleep).

Let's loosen up our tin foil hats and get a good nights sleep. We are all concerned about encroaches into personal freedoms such as the DHS story, but it's off topic here, and the original question is being discussed in another thread.
