For all intents and purposes I'm referring to this rifle as an AR10. I understand that Armalite is the only AR10 and yadda yadda. I'm wanting to build a .308 magazine fed rifle using a DPMS style lower receiver. What are some of the brands of upper receivers that fit with this style of lower. Price really isn't that much of an option since I'm building this gun over a year or so, and I'll have the chance to buy everything separately.

Don't know what you are looking for, but if accuracy is a consideration check out Lilja barrels. I am contemplating the same. I would like as light as possible and a tack driver.

I'll be sure to look into that. Thanks for the tip. I would like it to be pretty balanced as far as weight goes with maybe a half a pound heavier at the stock. I would like to keep the rifle under ten pounds if possible.

The vast majority of 308 ARs use the KAC/DPMS pattern. It's quicker to list the companies that don't use this standard - Armalite and Noveske. Both of them use the AR10B standard.

Some of the better companies producing receiver components are KAC, Georgia Precision (GAP), and MA Ten.

I wouldn't get too hung up on name brands as receivers are pretty much just a housing. But a matched set so they fit tight. I use a Remington r25 upper and lower and they are as good as anything. I have a Lilja 24" .95 barrel and it shoots just under Moa with factory ammo

Can't say for sure, but the Armalite AR-10A uppers may be compatible with KAC pattern lowers, since they were designed to use the Pmag.

I actually prefer the Armalite 10B pattern myself, but they were wise to offer a KAC/DPMS/Pmag compatible version.

They are compatible but it really doesn't have much to do with what mags they use. One of the biggest differences between an Armalite upper and a KAC/DPMS style upper is in how the rear of the upper receiver is cut. The KAC/DPMS is done on a curve like an AR15, the AR10 is a 45 degree angle.

The result of that is that an Armalite upper can theoretically be put on a KAC/DPMS lower however you have a pretty big gap at the back of the upper receiver because it's a completely different shape from the lower.
