I thought I would share the whitetail I shot this past Monday with my 586 no dash. Shot was in the timber right at 25 yards. He was running two does. This was my first deer with a .357. I killed one a few years ago with my 629.

Don't be silly. Everybody knows a .357 is too light for deer. That's why you need a custom T/C in 45/70 at least... Nice grips by the way.

Thanks for all the kind words. The 158gr Sierra JSP passed completely through. I also failed to mention that I shot in double action. The only way to shoot a DA revolver in my opinion!!

Looks like a suicide in the picture. :) Great shot...love to hear success stories about pistol hunting.

Nice, I'm trying for one with my .44 mag this year. I've gotten deer with a shotgun, muzzleloader, rifle, and bow so I figured the logical choice this year was handgun. :D

That's a really nice buck and a good shot! I killed several some years back with a favored 686.

Congrats on a beautiful buck.... Buddy of mine used to take deer with a Colt Python .357 and he never lost one; but his shots were all within 20 yards from where he was sitting. Care to share any more load details other than the bullet? .....( Just in case I ever try my 4" 686 on a deer).

22250- I used a mid range load of 2400 (can't remember the exact charge and I don't want to go to the basement to look), Winchester Primers and mixed brass. Bullet as I mentioned was a Sierra 158gr JSP. I'm a recoil wuss and find I shoot the mid range loads much better than the hot loads. They tend to be more accurate too in my experience. This one worked out.

I will also say that this sucker was LOUD! That was the first time I have ever shot a .357 without ear protection. Whew! I didn't care for that part of it.

Not to hijack but how did the JSP work for you? Exit? Expansion. Im using the same bullet over 13.8gn of AA#9 and still worry the JSP wont expand.

With a name like "birdshooter" the deer probably figured he had nothing to worry about.

Bambi should have paid more attention. "...said he never had much use for (a revolver), never said he didn't know how to use one".

"Me too" on the nice shot, nice buck, nice revolver.

Shooting double action is the way to go! A double action revolver with a K-Frame trigger reach, (the L frame shares the K-frame grip/trigger reach), is the easiest of handguns to shoot accurately under field conditions.

Great going, and very nice buck for sure. As for the noise, to be honest I usually hardly ever notice it. Usually it seems to be blocked out at the shot, even when hunting with my 454. I guess so much of my attention is on putting things where they need to be, I just shut it out.
