9x18 Lead

I have finally placed an order to Missouri Bullet Company. Part of my order is for some of their 9x18 93 grain RN bullets. I know from previous threads that many of this forum have favorite loads that worked for them. I asked this same question before but have neglected to write down the replies.I have a lot of different powders available. I would prefer to use Red Dot, W231 or H Titegroup. I have Starline brass as well as S&B available. Please tell me what has worked for you as this is my 1st time with lead in this caliber.I will be loading for a CZ82 as well as a Russian PM. :evil:

90 gr jacketed bullet: Sorry I don't have a load listing for lead, but use the starting load and work up. Watch for signs of leading.
Titegroup: Start 3.3/Max 3.7
W231: Start 3.6/Max 4.0

Is your barrel polygonal rifling? Polygonal barrels can foul with lead quickly, and build up pressure. Cut rifling isn't a problem.

I'm not sure that Red Dot is a good powder for a 9mm

I gave up reloading 9x18. Cast are super smoky and dirty in a blowback. And jacketed doesn't save any money over the Russian stuff.

Any of those powders should work fine. I think I used just shy of 4 gr UN for most of my reloads.

I am well aware of the supposed danger of lead in polygonal rifleing. I am also aware of the smoke and leading possibility.I have had guys on this forum tell me of sucessfuly using the MBC projectiles. I have loaded and fired many hundreds of rounds of this caliber using Berry's plated bullets.My wish is for the people who have sucessfully used the 93 Gr. MBC bullet to tell me what they used and their load range for the loads they used. I have used the search function and found the old threads with the info I desired. Guys had used MBC lead in the 9x18 without any problems in a CZ 82 which is what I have. I knew the answers I received just not the details.

If you are using cut-down 9mm brass, here's a good tip for loading:

I can't find any lead load data for W231/HP-38 and Titegroup with 9x18 Mak lead bullets. I would reference the most conservative jacketed load data and carefully do my work up from start charge.

95 gr HDY XTP HP-38 OAL .965" Start 3.4 gr (900 fps) 20,500 PSI - Max 3.8 gr (990 fps) 24,000 PSI
95 gr HDY XTP Titegroup OAL .965" Start 3.2 gr (926 fps) 18,500 PSI - Max 3.6 gr (1022 fps) 22,500 PSI

BTW, Lyman #49 lists 2.5/3.7 gr as start/max charges for W231 and 95 gr FMJ bullet at .970".

A friend of mine and I did some reloading for the CZ-82. We are using are using Meister Bullets 93gr RNL bullets, and Hodgdon Titegroup powder. We lowered the powder used from what Hodgdon lists due to these being 93gr and hard cast instead of jacketed.

Our results:

We started with a set of bullets loaded to 3.2, 3.4, and 3.6g as well as 2 boxes of S&Bs to use as a baseline. Results as follows:

S&B 95gr JRN Gun #1 Av Vel = 957 Hi=985 Lo 925

S&B 95gr JRN Gun #2 Av Vel= 1017 Hi 1053 Lo=998

We decied against shooting the 3.6gr set. At this point we were in our target of 1100fps.

My son and I found a great load for the 9X18 with a 95gr cast bullet and 3 grains of Titegroup. We tried 4 or 5 different powders and load ranges, that one was noticeably more accurate in his pistol than all of the others, a little smoky from the lube but still smells better IMO than the typical russian ammo he typically used.

My standard load is 3.8 grains of Universal Clays with the Berrys 95 gr plated. I'm told that plated should use cast loads.

I've been experimenting with Ramshot Competition out of my LCP.

I use 2.0gr with the Missouri Bullet 95gr lrn. (2.0-2.3 per Western Powders Data)
This is an extruded flake powder. The individual flakes are smaller than unique but still don't meter consistently at teeny tiny charges. I would not run it through a progressive press unless you are sure that it meters well through your powder measure. I occasionally get a light charge through my Lee with the micromeasure charge bar. I run this on a manual indexing turret and I eyeball every charge. Case fill for .380 with 2.0gr is just over 50%.

This load gave great results in my LCP. No unburnt flakes, clean, with mild recoil.

I am loading this bullet too for my EG Makarov. The best I found is 3gr of BullsEye. After couple hundred of rounds there is some leading around first inch, but not too bad.

I wish Berry started to make those bullets again, loading jacketed as mentioned doesn't make sense financially..

I use the Missouri Bullet 95. 3.7-3.8 Universal Clays. Seems to shoot real well. Have also loaded 3.5-3.6 which function fine in my Mak. Can't seem to locate where I saved the vels for my Mak loads. aaaarrrggghhhhhh
Will have to rechrono them and update here.
