How far do you drive to shoot if at all?

There is an indoor range about a mile from the house and another one probably 10 miles away. But I prefer outdoor. Tried a membership at one indoor and was not happy. I let it expire.

40-60 minutes of driving.
Rarely 20-30 minutes when shooting in FDF area.
There are _no_ rifle ranges in Helsinki. None.

There is a 75 yard gun range about 5 minutes away from my house. Been there once, thought it was not safe. People allowed to shoot too much junk, guy a few positions down got hit with a ricochet. Minor injury, but still...

So, the other two closest ranges are about a half hour away. Both public outdoor ranges run by the respective county. Both staffed and very safe.

My dream is a ten acre "get-away" ranch in north central Florida and building a backyard range a la Big Daddy Hoffman 1911 style. Now that's what I'M talkin' about. :)

gunshop, retail range indoor--5 miles @ 175./yr

public range pistol 25yd. rifle 100 yd --35 miles

private range up to 300 yd--$300./ membership (not a member)

I drive about 40 minutes to my range, which is a public (outdoor) range. I could probably find a closer one but it would be in the evil state of Maryland so no thanks.

Indoor for pistol - about 10-15 minutes depending on traffic and lights
Outdoor for shotgun (clays) only - about 25 minutes
Outdoor for sporting clays and rifle and pistol - about 50 miles one way - this has two sporting clays courses, pistol, rifle to 300 yards and a separate 850 yard rifle range

24 miles one way for the ranges that hold matches. There used to be two close indoor ranges but the small one was put out of business by a new big one. That one folded when it had some funky problems with the law and its employees.

There is a public land I drive to that is about 25mins/20miles from me. Its free but of course its shoot at your own risk.

Other than that, I go to a friend's property who lives about 10miles away.

I belong to a shooting club, available 24 hours a day - every day. Once in the car and moving, it takes about 15 minutes to get there, obeying the speed limits and stopping as directed by traffic controls.

When I lived in PDSR California, one way was about an hour and a half. I took all my guns, and a lunch.

Either the staffed public range about 10 minutes from my house (trap, skeet, rifle to 100 yards, and pistol to 25 yards) or the unstaffed public range 45 minutes away, close to my friend's house (trap, rifle to 75 yards, and pistol to 25 yards).

I get to shoot more at the unstaffed one, since there are not frequent breaks to change targets, but I have also had two instances of local yahoos walking downrange while others were shooting. Whenever many people show up at the unstaffed one, I tend to leave.

About 30 miles seems to be the magic number for me. My three favorite clubs in the SF Bay area were all about 30 miles and my current Oregon club is the same. One of the Bay area clubs--Richmond--has been associated with top competition shooters.

About $141 per year membership with plenty of opportunities to work off the price (help with machine gun shoots, gun shows, etc.), no charge for unlimited daily use or for visitors, planning some rifle ranges beyond 200 yards, have 12 bays that can be used for personal practice or matches and an archery course. Good prices on reloading components.

Did I mention full autos are welcome?

Very jealous of the folks with public land (desert) to shoot on. Nothing like that in the northeast or maybe even many places east of the Rockies. Even as free as a state like Pennsylvania is, there's no shooting on state game lands unless it's at a critter or at a range.

I've driven many thousands of miles to shoot matches, over the years. I used to average 1000 miles per month doing that, for almost 3 years. :) I've boarde 757's to several matches, a couple of them overseas.

Outdoor range is 30 minutes away and costs $15 for all day.

Indoor range is 10 minutes away and costs $20 for all day.

All of the clubs in my area (north of DFW) either have a 3 year waiting list, or a $5,000 initiation fee. Not gonna' happen.

20 minutes and $35 a year.Outdoor pistol range, archery range, trap shooting,Rifle range with 25,50,75,100 and 200 yard targets.50 years ago I just stepped out the back door to hunt and shoot.

Kinda same on this end. We had a very nice 100 yard rang on this property and the deer hunting was exceptional. Developments have put a stop to all and even Archery hunting is risky.

The county built a very nice public outdoor range complete with rifle and shotgun ranges. You can rent a clay target thrower and prices are pretty reasonable.

Usually though I just drive up US-93/I-15 until 93 splits off from the 15 heading towards Great Basin Natl. Park. I pull off a few miles up that road where there is an old NDOT gravel pit where lots of people go shoot. Good places to shoot, good backstops and it meets all the requirements for shooting.
It is outside city limits and the places people shoot are far enough off the road to be legal. I've even had NHP officers stop by just to check things out and shoot a little with us.

About 10 miles. Range is free. Ear and eye protection are provided, as are targets and stands. Pistol range out to 50yds, rifle range to 100yds. Covered with benches and tables. Also has a trap/skeet station, $5/round you bring the gun and shells.

And I thought I was lucky where I used to live; this is heaven!

As you can see, it gets a bit crowded on weekday mornings... :D
