Being an old High Standard man, just curious about opinions on the C&B series finished and sold by them in the late 70's. Guessing based on Google that they are Uberti parts assembled here, same as Gen-2 Colts. I see claims about the frames being manufactured in the USA but I'd hold that as speculation unless authoritatively proved. Never even handled one. Not generally entused about "commemorative" things, but still....

Opinions on quality, finish, etc? Prices have not gone too high yet.

I never thought of them as Italian parts..............
I really like a few of them and a couple are just too "commemorative" for my likes!

^^ I think it's pretty well established that HS bought major parts and then completed them in Connecticut. I'm thinking that the less-offensive "commemoratives" might be high quality sleepers for projects of light-defarbing and then customizing. The barrel markings are tasteful, and if the quality is good, which I suspect it is, they might be worthwhile.

My buddy bought the cased set-S&G with cutlass, matched S/N. Sold it 6 months later; said it had the worst fit and internal works of any gun he owned. Also said it would be the last HS C&B he'd ever buy.

"The frames were made by High Standard and the balance of the parts by Uberti."

This is why they look so much different in profile than the Italian pistols.......

Thanks Fingers, I'd read that a while back. Be interested to know if anyone of the regulars here has opened one up and looked at them with a critical eye for internal quality, etc.

Might just grab one myself to have a look.

Hoof, you think the US frame part of the story is accurate then?

I have a Leech & Rigdon that I intend to convert (if I ever get time). It is pretty nicely fitted and I see no issues. At times my fuddled brain forgets thing to make room for the NEW but didn't High Standard also have a hand in the Colt 2nd's or 3rd's? Seems just as nice as those inside with the outside finish appearing to be more in line with wartime factory work (meaning not meant to be a "civilian" Colt or show piece). I like the length and shape of the trigger as new repros have short "hooky" triggers, the hammer is nice and the action works correctly.

Regards, HH

I think that Iver Johnson was the linked firm you are thinking about for the Gen 2 Colts. I'm not remembering High Standard as having any input into that project. Peripherally I'm a small-scale HS collector and think I would have rememembered any link, but as you say.... more garbage into the brain = old garbage out. Dunno.

Thanks for the comments on the sample you have. I think I'll look for a previously shot example as a shooter and sample and see what they are all about. Your comments on finish are probably dead-on: HS never really polished anything past "functional" in my experience. Even their top level competition .22's were finished to a practical level, not a beautiful one.
