Who Still ACTIVELY Shoots the .30-06?

I like the cartridge, I firmly believe that if you could only have one centerfire rifle the 30-06 would be the best choice.

Yes I still shoot the 30-06. three shot groups @ 200yds of the bench with two different types of Remington Factory ammunition. I also shoot the 308 and 223 in competition but still use the 30-06 for the occasional hunt.

1946 Model 70

I was given this rifle by my grandfather in 1966. He had shot many deer and elk before me, and I've put down many more since, along with some antelope and caribou. I've handloaded it down to hunt prairie dogs and coyotes and up to a 180's for elk. It's been my go to gun for nearly my entire life!

Me; I do, I do.

A lot of 223

Love the 308

But the 30-06: If I could only have one rifle; this would be it.

Has taken EVERYTHING on earth.

Not saying it's the best for EVERYTHING; just has taken EVEYTHING.

What's not to love.

Big 30-06 fan in the Garand. Good to see M1 compatible commercial ammo becoming more available since the surplus ammo is starting to dwindle somewhat as well as inching up in price.

I have two:

Sadly, "occasional use" pretty much defines the shooting I've done in the last year but if I'm shooting rifles these two come along. I've shot the Savage more than any of my other rifles except my AR. 30 round preloaded mags make for lots o' shooting. The M1 is catching up, though.

If and when I have the time or money to actually hunt, the Savage will be my go-to.

There is something satisfying about the .30-06. Makes one feel quite American to shoot it.

My go to deer rifle is a Remington 700 adl in .30-06, and I love to just plink with it at the range. It will shoot 180 gr Winchester power points sub moa all day long.

I still have my first 30-06, a 1963 model Winchester 70 featherweight, my father got for me the year I finished high school. Later I picked up another, an early 80's push feed model and like both. My other two are an M-1 and a Ruger #1 standard. Other than AR types, the only caliber I have 4 rifles in is 45-70.

If I could have only one centerfire caliber it would probably be 30-06. My second choice would be a 375 H&H, generally throwing bullets 90-100 gr heavier than the '06 at about the same velocities and trajectories, a bit heavy to shoot varmites with as compared to the '06 but better for heavier and more dangerous game.

Got a Maverick, it's like the ATR, Mossberg 4X4, Winchester Model 70 and a Remington 700 BDL, all 30-06. I reload for all of them. The Maverick is a decent loaner rifle and the 700 will put holes in quarters until I'm tired. The other two fall in between.

Smith & Wesson 1500 30 06 I have had for many years coyotes to elk 180 nosler partition for elk and deer 130 speer hollowpoints for yotes Stuffed with 4350 I am good to go. Only other rifle is my saddle gun a 336 marlin 35 remington. I dont even own a 22. I want things dead when I shoot them. No wiggles or floppin.

I'm a 30-06 guy all the way. I have tried other calibers but got pretty board with them. I used to hand load but not so much anymore. You can beat a round that goes from a 110 to a 220 grain and everything in between. For hunting, I didn't like the game running and with an '06, deer pretty much drop in place. The few times I've used lighter calibers, I had some tracking to do. You can work up some great target loads and light loads for plinking.

I do, regularly.

My primary hunter is an old Browning High Power in -06, scoping can be problematic but what a sweet rifle.

I regularly haul an -06 "Tanker" Garand as a truck carbine and shoot the heck outa any one of three Full size Garands; an IHC, SA and Winchester.

The 03s get out a lot as well, especially the A3s.

I only recently sold my old Winchester 54 in -06 to make some room but it was well used over the past decade.

I love the round.

I'm thinking of selling off some stuff and getting into a double barrel blazer 97 in 30-06
worth more than my current vehicle :) the stripped down model looks like can be found for 3500-4000. Would be my first 30-06 and I haven't even seen to many double rifles

honestly I have to stop myself from even looking at them online when nice bolt gun can be had for 500 or so it makes even the idea for me seem ridiculous. Definition of a want.... :)

I decided on an 06 some 25 years ago. My model 70 has been my go to meat gun for all those years. I inherited a 94 in 30-30 a couple years ago, but still drag the 06 to the blind. I've had it in Wyoming and home in MI. I just bought a .243, wondering if I'll actually hunt with it.....
