Hey, yesterday I found some ammo in my pockets at school, there was .32 ACP, 9x19, and a few .44 specials. I showed them to my friends and one of them asked me If I could get him some .32 acp ammo for a revolver his brother has, in .32 S&W long. I told him that he should NEVER use a cartidge other than what the gun was designed for. Now my question is, is it safe to fire .32 ACP in .32 S&W long? I have plenty of .32 long ammo so I don't need to take the risk, so it's just a question.

I would never shoot .32 ACP in a .32 S&W Long. I doubt the ACP would fit anyway, since it lacks the rim of the S&W cartridge.

Actually,...the .32 ACP IS Semi rimmed, and can be safely fired in a .32 Long or H&R revolver in a pinch. Accuracy probably will suffer,...but it's been done a lot. Expect RC will probabl weigh in here soon.

My only .32 Long was made in 1912.. a S&W I frame, and I have NO intention of firing .32 ACP in it!

Max pressure of the .23 S&W Long is 15,000 PSI.

Max pressure of the .32 ACP is 20,500 PSI.

Will it work?
Yes.

Is it a good idea in old guns?
NO.

I really don't know why this guy wants .32 ACP ammo if .32 long is much more common. In fact I've seen .32 ACP very few times in my town.

Yeah, I told him he should NEVER fire cartidges other than .32 S&W long. It might work and be safe but if he can just buy the right cartidge why shoot .32 ACP?

Ammo in your pockets at school? Had this been in the US Feinstein would have sent SWAT in.
