Hey, I know most of you are not familiar with canadian-made AR's,
but that's all we get down here. It's the DMR model.
It is a North Eastern Arms NEA-15, in 5.56x45mm NATO, has a 18" barrel, 1:7 twist, mid length gas system, Direct impingement of course. It also has a free-float handguard. What do you think?

Looks good.
Thanks, unfortunately we can't get AR's from the US, except for the Remington R-15 which just started being imported.

The picture is how it looks out of the box, I just bought the troy folding battle sights, because I still didn't choose the scope, and I wanted to shoot it.

Looks like a cool rifle. I'm not familiar with the brand. Are they good quality? It looks like the flash hider is threaded for something.

I hear they are good quality. I tried it today with troy flip up battle sights, a 30 round mag without problems, aguila .223 ammo. It was getting dark so I didn't have much time. I'm not sure what the flash hider is threaded for. I will search in some NZ gun forums, it looks like they get NEA ar's there

Congrats on the new firearm. The AR is a great rifle, very impervious to rot and rust, light weight, 30 rounds and semi automatic... what's not to like!? Well, except now you will want more of them. I understand that a couple of years ago something like 50,000 AR rifles were going into civilian hands every month, and it has been increasing! Rifle behind EVERY blade of grass...oh yeah!

Nice firearm, enjoy

the flip up sites rule. i want some for my ar.just have not got around to it. my son has flip ups and a batt operated holo site. i have just the batt op holo site and they seem to go dead even turned off in the safe.

his flip up sites seem very accurate.im prob going to go that way soon.

You could do both the holo and the backup sights and co-witness them. Some brands of red dot have auto shutdown features to conserve battery life as well. I couldn't say about holographic sights like the eotech.

OP: your rifle looks great for a first time AR buyer.

The trip is just beginning. If you are like most AR owner's you will end up with a box of accessories that you wanted to try and decided that there is a better one on the shelf at your LGS.

And then there is the brother or sister to that one.:D

Are you only allowed to buy complete rifles down there? Could you import "parts" from the US and assemble it yourself? Either way, looks great, and have fun! It won't be your last!

Thanks! And yes you can legally assemble a gun, but you need the parts first. If you can somehow import the parts you can, but I think it would be extremely hard.
