What do you guys think of this?

http://blogs.dallasobserver.com/unfairpark/2014/05/theres_a_schism_in_texas_open.php

I'm of the perhaps unpopular opinion that these kinds of demonstrations do more harm to our cause than good. These guys walked into a Jack in the Box with AR-15's slung over their shoulders and probably scared the piss out of the employees/customers.

For what it's worth, I am not really one to support open carry in large urban areas like Dallas (where I live) because i think it creates unnecessary tension and alarms people who otherwise could go on about their blissfully ignorant way of thinking that nobody around them is packing.

I would like to add that I do think open carry is more than reasonable in certain situations/locations but cities with 3 million people do not fall under that category, for me.

I'd bet when Rosa Parks insisted on sitting at the front of the bus, it scared the piss out of the white folks on the bus.

You either accept the status quo, or do something to try and change things. IMHO you world view plays into the "guns are evil and scary" narrative of the Left.

If this is the "best" or even a good way to proceed, only time will tell.

When I was young I saw guns most everywhere -- behind the front door, for sale at Sears, Wards, etc. & mail order (except New Your City), in racks in the rear windows of pickup trucks -- nobody was scared of an inanimate object.

sure but times are different for many many reasons. you're welcome to your opinion on my views on firearms and how they play into some narrative, but the fact remains that i'm a life member of the NRA and donate $500 a year to them to keep up the fight.

I think it is counter productive in some situations to carry an AR15 or a shotgun into a public place just because you can. 2 guys walking into a restaurant with AR15's in tow is going to raise make a lot of people uneasy.

I realize I may be in the minority with this but i'd love to hear thoughts on why demonstrations like this are beneficial to protecting/furthering 2A rights. Perhaps I'm missing something? I can see that it definitely brings awareness/attention to the current laws and that anyone who chooses to exercise that right is free to do so.
