Best Mouse Guns

The Beretta Bobcat & Tomcat in .22LR.& .32acp. are great little guns. The KEL-TEC P-32 &P3AT are also good little guns. I carry the Tomcat & P3AT the most. But I like all 4 very well. When we get to .380acp. the LCP is real nice. Should have hung on to the one I had! Your gun. Your choice. Good luck with whatever you chose.

The best pocket gun has about as much about your skills and prep on the handgun, the ammo you use than the handgun today. We all have something other whin about. I pocket a 5 shot revolver for 20 years , had a pf-9 and now a cm9 kahr. In the family we had two Taurus 738 TCP 380's. I also had a tomcat be haited it. Reliable , yes. . Just find for You like feed it good ammo and keep it clean and well lubed, atleast at first.

Golden.... "I would not consider the new COLT Mustang or SIG 238 for that reason. If you are not a regular shooter of the 1911 style of pistols, I would avoid them."

Was trying to get my hands on a Colt Mustang Pocketlite today and no one had them in stock. Just wanted to hold it, check it's finish, etc, to see how it compares to my PPK. Round in chamber, hammer down, safety on. How should that be a problem? You don't trust it NOT to prevent an A.D. or too much of a hassle to prep it to shoot? (Being serious.... I don't know because I don't own one yet!). I do carry the 1911 too when weather permits more clothes. Gees, I may just stick with a trusty revolver.

I had the Colt Government Model .380, but it was taken. I picked up a Sig. Model 238, .380acp. . They are both nice pistols & I didn't have any problems with them or the way I carried them.Round in the chamber w/ hammer down &safety on. If you have a PPK, I would consider you well armed with it! The PPK is a old design, but one of the best!

Shrug. If I can't carry other than a mouse gun, I prefer a proper mouse gun. My Tanfoglio GT-27 in .25 ACP is enough to get you out of the cases where someone doesn't want to be shot at all or out of the bad breath distance disasters that sometimes happen.

I'd prefer to have my Model 10 but if, for whatever reason, I can't I'd rather have an absolute last resort that I won't pull unless there is utterly no other choice to be made.

What loads are we choosing for the .25 acp?

FMJ?

Power-Point?

Gold Dot?

Best I've handled is the Beretta Jetfire in 25acp.

Not the best caliber, though. ;)

With any small caliber, low velocity bullet that will be fired from a short barrel, you should use FMJ. Penetration will be very important for you to try and incapacitate any assailant. No JHP or frangible bullet will likely expand or penetrate deep enough to damage vitals.

Everyone has their favorites and that usually ends up being what they currently carry. That just makes sense that we would recommend to you what we carry.

Well, I'm no different. I carry a Kahr P380 and absolutely love it. I am very accurate with it and it is not a handful to shoot like some of the small .380s. As far as trigger pull goes, yes, it is long, but it is very smooth and manageable.

With a pocket pistol you do have to shoot it fairly often to maintain a respectable degree of accuracy. But remember, if you have the misfortune to have to use it for SD you are probably only talking a distance of 7 yards in.

So, my vote is for the P or C 380 from Kahr.

Thanks gang!

I just came across the SIG P290 RS (in 380). Has anybody tried one of these?

JJ

I'll second Hometeached1 on the 290RS in 9mm. I believe the 290RS in .380 just was introduced this year. It should be easy to rack the slide because the 9mm version is not hard.

The listed weight of the .380 version is approx 4 ounces less than the 9mm, so Sig must have shaved some weight from the slide or perhaps went to an alloy sub-frame or something. Don't know.

A Baby Browning (or PSA clone) or a Seecamp 25 if you must have 25. Honorable mention to Walther model 9 and Phoenix HP25.

have not had a chance to try the p290 but love my sig 938...... rosewood in 9mm but then its just like my 45 acp so very used to the whole package its just smaller....

Yes, stay away from the Tomcat. Too many frame cracking problems.

The LCDs might be okay, it's just that I'm not thrilled when revolver barrels drop below two inches. The Rugers are 1.78-inch, and I personally don't like it when companies put out revolvers and go below the 2-inch bare minimum. In fact, two inches is too short for my taste, but that's where I draw the line. I mean, you've got all that raw power in a .357 cartridge -- why waste it in an ultra-short barrel? I can remember when the gun writers in the 70s and 80s used to bemoan how anything below a six-inch barrel really wasn't a "magnum," but even 2.5-inch Smiths and 2.75-inch Rugers did very well. But shorter than that and you're better off using .38 +P out of a 4-inch .38, and without the earsplitting roar and the fireball (which I guess could be weapons all by themselves).

Twenty-twos are great self defense loads despite what some people say. Easily controlled and capable of rapid fire, even novices can put them into a face, neck, head or chest. My tiny Beretta .22lr used to jam every third or fourth time and I lost confidence in it. Then someone said, "Try shooting CCIs out of it," and I did. Never had a jam since -- which means my Beretta is now as reliable as my fifty-dollar Jennings J-22, which is an astounding little gun.

So the Berettas and the fabulous Ruger SP-101 are my recommendations. And I wish the Beretta 70S was still around or I'd recommend that in .22lr.

I carry FMJ and expect to be shooting only at contact distance. Penetration is key in minimal calibers like .25 or .22LR - plus center-fire reliability is important to me.

seecamp--25/32/380--same physical size. i have the .32--not a target pistol but accurate for what it is-also carried in a pocket holster. make sure you use the right ammo and test it out to make sure it chambers all the time--stay away from remington lead.

While its by no means univerally accepted, the method of carry you describe (aka "Condition 2") is by many considered a poor way to carry a SA pistol, in addition to being slower into action it can actually be less safe than "Condition 1" (round in chamber, hammer cocked, safety on) carry, which is the way SA pistols were originally designed to be carried. Lowering and raising the hammer over a loaded chamber both offer opportunities for AD.

I think, however, Golden(?) was simply stating that SA pistols require specific training and skills to use effectivly and safely, so if all your other guns are Glocks, a SA pocket pistol probably isn't the best choice for you. ;)

The Rohrbaugh R9 was my Holy Grail.

Took me years to find, but when I saw it and held it, I knew it was perfect!

These have been absolutely reliable for me,,,

Taurus 22-PLY and 25-PLY.

I shoot Federal Bulk through the 22 and it runs fine,,,
But when I decide to put it in my pocket,,,
I only load it with CCI Mini-Mags.

The .25 has run perfectly with several different ammo brands.

I bought the .22 on a whim because it was cute and inexpensive,,,
I thought it would make a fun little range toy,,,
But it turned out to be a fine performer,,,
So I bought the .25 ACP as well.

Just another option for you.

Mouse guns like the Berettas are incredible. But one gun I wish they hadn't stopped making is the Model 70S. I had one of these hard chromed and a fellow from Mahovsky's (who did the hard chroming) called me before they returned it to tell me that he loved the gun and what good shape it was in. And when I got it back it was as he said.

So, I wondered if any of the tolerances had chaged, and took it to the range. It looked like stainless steel, and I loaded it with several types of ammo. I didn't have one malfunction, jam, whatever. I brought it back home and it cleaned up perfectly. Incredible gun, and I got some flat grip panels at the time I got it.

Anyway, it was functionally perfect.

Beautiful gun. Wonder how available they are on the market.

You're right: the Beretta Model 70S is still one the best small to medium size .22s ever made. Totally reliable with every kind of ammo, great single action trigger and accurate too; even with all steel construction, easy enough to carry all day long without even noticing it.

Would love to see them bring that gun back one day.

I never could see how anyone could not buy one of each of these. In fact, if there were no .25acp or .22LR versions of any mouse guns, and if someone cranked something like these out in their basement, what a novelty they'd be. Reporters on various news shows would be eating them up, showing how they fit in the palm of your hand and shot real bullets. But I think anyone could find a use for either or both of them.

The Beretta 70S as the Gun Control Act dictated it. The
first thing one did is lose the grips and replace them with
flat ones. Don't know if they're still available.

And this is how God wanted it to look like! ...well except for the magazine extension!

Find yourself a nice Polish P-64 CZAK. The 9x18 Makarov round will handle the biggest mouse you can find! ;)
