But I feel great for having done it. I sent a good friend home with a Lee press, Redding powder measure (courtesy of medalguy) , 155gr .40 Berry's bullets, and 300 CCI SPP. But the hardest thing to give him was 1/2lb of W-231. I can't remember the last time I saw it available and it was all the W231 I had. I have an ample supply of other pistol powders for my shooting but I'll still miss the 231. But I was able to help him get a start in the hobby and it always feels good to help out a friend.

Well done sir, you have helped our sport and hobby. I do understand how hard giving away that W231 is to do. I have not seen any in 2 years either.

you should also help him shoot them ;)
I definitely would but he's stationed at Ft Benning GA for the time being, he's just in town for a few weeks. We're planning to hit the range before he leaves town but I don't think either of us will have time to do any reloading before then. Maybe when he's done with his service he'll buy the Dillon 1050 he's already wanting and I'll finally get to see one in person :)

You are completing the circle and making friends to boot. Giving away the last of your 231 shows what a stand up guy you are! Well Done!

Yeah it really was the hardest thing to give away. The press was a bonus throw in on a trade I made a couple years ago. The powder measure would have been nice to keep but I have 2 Hornady's already. The primers and bullets, there's plenty on local shelves. But that W-231, :(

You're a better man than me... I'm holding tight to my last remaining W-231.

i gave my father 1 lb of Green Dot a few weeks back. Hes been trying to find any pistol powder for reloading 9mm and nothing has been in stock anywhere around here. I havent seen green dot in stock for over a year (locally or online). Shortly after giving him the powder, i found an 8 lb jug for sale. and for quite a bit cheaper than i bought it almost 2 years ago. Hopefully you get lucky as well!

It hurts. I sent a box home with my dad a while back with dies a press a scale and Lyman 47. He is up to 3 calibers now and has supplied me with bullets more than once.

Yeah I have powder. Not much in the W231 to Unique burn range that I like but I should have enough to tide me over until the "shortage" passes.
Not bragging but.... I still have 2X 4lb jugs of W231 on the shelf and 3X single pound bottles of HP-38 on the shelf. It's not a lifetime worth but it should get me through this shortage and the next too!

(no, not tellin where I live! LOL)

I have made a lot of ammo for my friends in Northern CA because they say ir's pretty scarce (and expensive). You also go through a background check just to buy it. So when they are coming out this way they call ahead to tell me what they need.

You are a braver man than I...

Well that was awfuly nice of you. I need friends who give away sweet reloading stuff.

Really though, judging by the title of the thread I was almost certain it was going to be something to the likes of: "had to put ol' Yeller down today".

....and you were going to the kennel to "reload" on a new pup!

I keep getting compliments about being a good and generous person, but as many offers as I've received from other members in PM's, this forum is full of good and generous reloaders. Thank you all for the offers to help me out with W-231. It's greatly appreciated and as hard as it was to give that powder up I'll be okay without it. I've been lucky enough to find enough of other powders to get me by for awhile.

But if anyone knows some good places to look for powder in northeast Alabama or northwest Georgia, and you don't mind PM'ing me that info I'd like to pass it along to my friend. But I believe he's getting transferred to Ft Campbell Kentucky soon if anyone knows some good shops around there.
