Are barrels with flash hiders with a place to use a wrench threaded? I have a couple of 10-22's and a Remington with flash hiders that I can use a wrench on and am wondering if they will screw off. No sign of welding.

Odds are yes, as long as you don't see a hole around the flash hider towards the end closest to the barrel that looks like a pin is in there. Because sometimes the hiders are pinned on. Pics would be good if you can.

They sure look like they should just screw off. One is a M&P 15-=22 and one is a SR-22 rifle. My 10-22 flash hider screwed right off. I can do pics tomorrow if needed. Bout bed time.

Those both have standard 1/2x28 threaded barrels and the flash hiders should come off easily. Though the threads on those rifles are too long for most .22 silencers, so make sure you get a spacer before you shoot them suppressed.

I have the M&P 15-22 and it just screws off, as long as it is not the NY or CA model. If it has a adjustable stock then it is not the NY or CA model.

I had to get a spacer for my 15-22, gemtech make nice ones for a decent price.

What will happen if the threads are too long? Can I use washers ? How long do the threads need to be. I took 4 22mags and a 17wsm to the smith today to be threaded.

Worst case scenario, it won't shoulder properly and you'll get baffle strikes.

Or, it can shoulder properly but the muzzle will be too close the first baffle. In that case, you might just get too much build-up between the muzzle and the baffle. Or, in the case of asymmetrical baffles, the bullet can exit the muzzle too close to the first baffle and can become unstable and cause baffle strikes.

For example, the Spectre II will still shoulder properly on an AR-style .22, but the bullet exits the muzzle so close to the first baffle that the bullet becomes unstabilized and can keyhole. The one time I saw this happen, the shooter was very lucky he didn't get baffle strikes.

No, never use any crush washers, lock washers, or regular washers; they won't necessarily allow the silencer to line up properly and you might get baffle strikes. You should only ever use a precisely-machined spacer specifically designed for silencers. Gemtech sells them for about $10.

About 0.4" or so. That's what most .22 silencers are designed for. But many .22 rifles come with threads that are about 0.6", which is too long for most .22 silencers.
