For those who planned ahead for various unexpected events, why not?

A Presidential Executive order which has banned imports of Saiga rifles/shotguns is separate, so maybe a delay in buying ammo would send a small signal from our consumers?

The Russian economy has been struggling, even before some recent, minor sanctions.
For those:confused: who don't watch/read the news, a Malaysian jumbo jet with 298 passengers was downed by a (Russian built) radar-guided SA-3, SA-11 or other SAM yesterday.

Umm... no. I like Russian hardware.

Why would gun owners boycott Russian ammunition simply because Obama signed an order banning the rifles that shoot them... that really doesn't make any sense to me.

The events in Ukraine/Russia are of no concern of mine. It's inevitable in conflicts using highly destructive modern hardware will spill out a little and innocents will perish.

Less a Russian/Ukraine conflict issue than it is "Why would an airline fly over a highly contested airspace?" Modern surface to air missile systems can track and hit targets up to 80,000 feet, anyone with half a brain should have given that area a wide berth, and then some.

This may sound pretentious, but back when USA started importing "Made In Japan" it was thrash. As the years went by Japan became a super power of well made products of which I did not mind buying for obvious reasons. When it came to the trade agreements with our enemy's I never buy from China, Russia, or any Asia, or European Nation other than our allies and seldom.
I find all of the American made ammo and firearms made superior to anything Asian and Russian. There are thousands gunsmiths and dozens of manufacturers who build economically to satisfy my needs. Make sure to fight for your rights is the key before all is gone in this country or your going to see his pen cancel a BIG X over your face. Buy American and keep our ammunition company's going along with our firearms builders no matters who owns them as long as they are here in this Country.

Buy American and keep our ammunition company's going

It would be nice if our ammunition companies got off their fat butts and started making powder and ammo for the american people instead of government contracts or overseas.

Buy American, where?, we have been out of 231 powder for almost two years now and it is still impossible to find any pistol powder. The big joke is that they still want you to think that they give a damn about the American public.

This. Let me know when US ammo companies stop treating the American civilian as an afterthought after government contracts, foreign buyers, and cops.

Im confused to whom we would be sending the message to.
The US govt banned the firearm, but we're going to boycott something that affects the russian govt? Is that the line of thinking here or am I missing something. (always possible)

Just my own personal "campaign"...

I avoid buying anything Russian or Chinese, although it keeps getter more difficult with the Chinese.

Depending on the outcome of the investigation into the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17, boycotting Russia period might be in order, not just cheap ammo.

With the technology used to shoot the airliner down, odds are, the ones that pulled the trigger knew the plane was not a threat. This was just terrorism by Russian backed rebels. I know to me, the lives of 300 innocent people is a bigger priority than saving 50 cents a box on ammo.

<Folks, lets try to keep this out of geopolitics. Tricky, and this might just be a thread with no future, but we are NOT a world events or military and political strategy forum.>

There are countries that do a lot more killing, (you know who) and gun owners still gladly buy their bullpups... err products. No I have no reason to boycott Russian ammunition, and neither do most gun owners. When we get no more cheap foreign ammo, the domestic ammunition companies will do the most American thing they can think of, jack up the prices.

Umm do what makes you happy. I'll buy whatever works well in my gun and is easiest on my pocketbook. I couldn't care less where my ammo is made as long as I can afford it and it goes bang. I'm more worried about the American companies and our own government screwing us over than I am the Ruskies.

Ignition Override,

What you're suggesting would not have any political impact on the decisions of the the Russian government so any boycott would be ineffective and as a result pointless.

I think it's a good idea. BTW, I practice this model all the time. I will not own an AK nor will I buy Russian-made ammo. I did buy some once, just a mental slip forgetting that I have some simple rules by which to live.
My general rule is shaped by the notion that most US soldier who return home in a coffin due to small arm fire fall to fire coming from an AK. I long ago told myself that I would thus never own one.
Now that Putin and team is encroaching on western europe, violating treaties, testing NATO and is directly associated with shooting airliners out of the sky, I am only redoubling my perspective.
There's a lot to choose from out there. It seems like a trivial sacrifice.

Explain?

Send a message to whom, exactly?
SAM, you asked for an explanation. IMHO the answer requires getting into geopolitics.
There are 300 people who deserve some sort of justice and empathy, do you not agree?
I will admit that a boycott of russian ammo is a very minor action of little consequence. But with other collaborative actions it may well have an effect on the situation and move the situation closer to a just solution.

It is to my understanding that most Americans are killed by IEDs, so does that mean you will no longer buy windex or nails?

I think that a boycott, be it official or unofficial, could be taken the wrong way by our leaders. For us as a firearms community to stand up and say we're no longer going to purchase ammo or other products by X or Y country because something happened by a rogue agent COULD tell U.S. leaders to make an official boycott on the next round of sanctions.

That could bring up the phrase "give them an inch.. they'll take a mile" in which we'll slowly be strangled of options from every supplier that's deemed "immoral" or "dangerous". They already don't trust US, the law abiding citizens that pay for all their salaries and pet projects. Giving them the idea that we can't give the same trust to others that we say we deserve, IMO is the wrong concept to put forward.

It is only a topic for discussion. "Allegedly" providing the SA-3 (etc) to the Ukrainian insurgents was the only inspiration.
I'm also curious whether imported 7.62x39 prices will jump a little.

hso: True, and to put it into context I've already stored approx. 8,000 rds. of Wolf and some Tula, mostly as insurance for retirement and the next (non-election) panic. Without the very competitive Russian prices-versus US ammo-I never would have bought the Mini 14, Mini 30 and SKS back in '08.

gunnutery: Interesting.
Trent: As to why the Malaysian dispatchers planned that flight-to save oper. costs-over the same are where a Uk. military transport was downed from about FL 200 (last week!) is the most baffling.

Since Obama said the Ruskies did it, then we should believe him right. Especially when Putin's plane was in the area at the same time. Don't believe everything the liberal media tells you. :scrutiny:
