I bought my first Sig GSR (post manhole cover) back when they were 100% MIMless and easily the best deal in a production 1911. Then Sig introduced the Nightmare series.... Then they brought out the Nightmare Carry :what:

So I've long wanted one but only ever saw one in real life- at a gun store in Tacoma. $1050 plus tax (so ~$1,153 out the door) was just too steep, even though I'd decided to put the GSR up for sale to fund it.

On a whim I stopped by the McChord BX after work today to see what they had rusting in the case. I'm seriously NO fan of AAFES and I can get Sigs through their IOP cheaper than the BX sells them, but the Nightmare Carry isn't in the IOP catalog.

Wait.....what's that....labeled as a Nightmare but looks like a Nightmare Carry......

Wow, the price is reasonable, and there's no sales tax.....

"Can I see the Nightmare please?"

Counter girl pulls the gun out and it fits my hand like my hand was the hand model they used to design the grip. Then she says, "Oh, there's 5% off if you use your Star Card, today only" (AAFES credit card for you non GIs).

So..... $992.75? Hmmmmm..... Noodled it for a few minutes and said, "Wrap it up, I'll take it." (and yes, I know you can get one for $115.63, with 500 rounds of ammo and a thigh rub from your special dealer- but I can't)

Wow this thing is built nice. The slide to frame fit is spectacular. The front strap checkering is a work of art. Night sights! The trigger is absolutely the best out-of-the-box trigger I've ever known. Even the box it came in is a step up from the usual single-wall plastic type.

OK, the magazines will live in the box from here on out; they look terrible. I have plenty of Wilsons and some flush-fitting GI style magazines I prefer anyway.

I hope to get it out this weekend to do some run-in for carry. I'll try to get some better pictures than the one above-- sorry, the light is bad in here.

Congrats. I bought one a few months back after handling a used one that'd been strip mined of it's night sights, among other things.

The new one's trigger was disappointing but my gunsmith took care of that. He replaced some of the MIM parts with Cylinder and Slide parts and did whatever it is he does to tune a trigger.

All I can say is I look forward to range time with it, even carry it from time to time as the trigger is still carry-safe.

Its a remarkable value for folks like me who need the bobtail to seal the 1911 deal.

It looks like Sig is running a promotion right now for recent purchases- send in the form and they'll send you back a range bag and two magazines.

While the magazines are kind of long in the gun, I can carry with a flush-fitting magazine and use the stockers for back-ups.

You'll love it. It's a great shooter and actually pretty comfortable to carry if you want to. I got mine last year and all I've done to it is the CT rosewood grips. I just put them on there for grins. I don't really recommend the laser on a handgun anyway. Just good sights, and the Nightmare comes with some pretty good sights out of the box.

I've got the "Fastback"... same as the Nightmare, but all-Nitron, and rosewood grips. You're going to love it. they shoot just great. I bought mine about a year ago and never looked back. I think they've come up in price. Mine was $889 about a year ago. I found it at Low Priced Guns in Bellevue, of all places! GREAT guys there and very good prices, if you ever make it north of Tacoma. :)

It wasn't fun finding a holster back then, but it might be easier now. The square profile of the slide makes it kind of difficult to find something that fits like it should.

Great gun and a great value for the money! Enjoy!

All that's left now is to clean it and reload the magazines.

I took it out with a 100 round box of 230gr ball, 100 rounds of my SWC reloads, and 50 rounds of Federal 230gr HSTs. I brought along a variety of magazines-- the two that came with the gun, several Wilsons, one ActMag that came with my Rock Island 1911, one from the previous Sig 1911, and one 7rd GI style flush fitting magazine that will be the carry mag.

This thing is far more accurate than I am. It was completely reliable even with the SWCs which jam in every gun I've ever shot them in. My wife even raved over how nice it was to shoot.

The SWCs were a surprise because they jam in every .45 I've ever tried them in. I've been saving them to use as gun break-in rounds to recover the brass- I won't be loading that bullet type again.

Gee, back when I was in the Air Force the AAFES didn't even carry ammunition, let alone firearms! Makes me want to re-enlist.

I bought a Fastback when they first came out. It is very well made with great value features. I love it as my CCW but sometimes I do CC my Colt New Agent. Despite what sig bashes whine about, they are a great value and a very well made 1911.

Great looking gun. I don't think that was a bad price at all. I'm also not surprised it worked with the SWCs. I've never been around a Sig that didn't shoot anything you fed it.

Somewhat better picture but the lighting isn't good. I'm not really much of a photographer but here they are together. My old reliable GSR Revolution and the Carry Nightmare:

Nice pistol . I love the bobbed grip. It just seems to fit my hand better.
That's the thing I find strange- if you look at the GSR you might notice it has an arched MSH with the lanyard loop. Arched seems to fit my hand better than the flat MSH. So why does the rounded MSH/frame fit so well?

I picked up a Galco Jackass holster from craigslist for $60 almost new (looks new to me, seller said he wore it twice). I figure that was a reasonable price for a holster style I haven't tried, and holster that doesn't *necessarily* fit the gun. I wore it around yesterday and it's OK, flops a bit, but conceals well under a Hawaiian shirt and takes a load off my belt which is a nice change. The gun is in there pretty tight so today I have the gun wrapped in a freezer bag parked in the holster to stretch it out a bit.

Meanwhile I'm in the queue for a custom pancake holster from Lobo Gun Leather- smooth leather lined with a thumb-break for open and concealed carry. This gun is too pretty to hide it all the time.

I put the GSR up on Armslist; I don't see myself needing it now. Great gun but involves some heartbreak after the USPS stole the original slide. Sig made it right with a new slide, all fitted with pretty new night sights, but it doesn't have the GSR Revolution billboard anymore. Anyway, to me it's a reminder of the all the thieves who think everything we work hard for might just as well belong to them.
