I was a customer of Cheaper Than Dirt in the past.
I got the printed catalog in the mid/late 2000s. ;)
I scoffed at the gun owners/2A supporters who railed against CTD for their reported price gouges & poor customer service post-Sandy Hook 2012.

I looked into buying a few products from Cheaper Than Dirt. The prices were great & the items were ready/in stock. :D
Then, I checked CTD's S/H rates. :what:
This shooting sports firm wants customers to pay nearly double in S/H than what the items are worth! Outrageous! The site expects customers to pay different S/H rates for each item. A $8.99 Otis Ripcord cleaner requires a $10.00 fee.
A $19.99 Blackhawk Sportster Holster adds a $10.00 S/H fee.
To be clear(because I checked), this is not a added air or express rate, this is regular ground(basic) S/H.

I'm now behind the anti-CTD crowd. I don't know what their execs are thinking or how they plan to stay open but I'm not spending $36.00 in ground S/H for $40.00 in merchandise. :cuss:

RS

PS; I did buy a few things from www.MidwayUSA.com . They lowered S/H & give customers choices. :D The owner/CEO Larry Potterfield must want repeat customers or to make profits. BTW; my S/H total was $3.99.

ive stopped ordering from lower than dirt a long time ago... 1 website with 9 different warehouses all with different s/h fees got old fast. add state of Tx sales tax and you have expensive... too many good retailers out there...

My issue with cheaper than dirt pre-sandyhook was that they were never the cheapest after shipping was added in.

Post sandyhook that didn't change but my gripe was they basically marketed with "GET THEM NOW BEFORE THEY'RE BANNED" knowing full well nothing was getting banned. I have no problem with price increases following a huge surge in demand.

From what I've seen, Amazon doesn't rape folks on shipping like CTD does. And if you order six items, they may come in six shipments, even if two of those items are the same thing...

RockAuto also has a few warehouses, but I dont recall ever paying two different shipping prices, even if bulky/heavy items (shocks) are ordered with small items (a sensor) that ship from different locations.

The last time I "shopped" at CTD was when I was looking to pay $25 shipping on about $30 worth of stuff. Went to Brownells, spent $35, plus $5 shipping.

Amazon often has pretty good deals on gun stuff. Ebay can be pretty good, too, even for NIB items.

$100 for a Pmag

I forgot about that. I wasn't really scoffing at others refusing to buy from them during that time, but I didn't want to completely vow to never use them again. Once things started to level off from the panic, I checked into a few accessory pieces for my first AR build and even trying to batch the items from the same warehouse didn't seem to matter for bringing the S/H price down. It was then I decided even if they correct their stupid greediness it'll be a long time before I even think about buying from them again.
