.22lr MEGATHREAD

I'm seeing .22LR all over the place now. Dicks had some CCI MiniMags the last time I was there. A LGS close to me here had a bunch of Armscor no limit. It was < $3.50 a box. A LGS near my home area has had several different type of .22 to choose from for the last 3 months. I've seen it off and on at other places for a couple of months. The shortage is pretty much over IMO. Prices should be back to normal before too long. They're already falling. I have turned my back on a lot of overpriced stuff lately. Online dealers have had plenty too but high shipping costs keep me from buying all but specialty ammo online unless I can get a good deal on a case of CCI SV.

Bass Pro

Was at Brass Pro tonight and asked for 22 lr ammo and of course answer was no. Struck up a conversation with a rep from Winchester. He told me just to keep checking everywhere I went. Said he had just delivered some to a local department earlier in the and should hit the shelves soon. About 5 minutes later he came back and handed me a 555 pack of Winchester 22lr and told me not to let anyone see it. I was looking at powder and primers when there was an announcement saying anyone interested in 22 lr should report to the gun counter. I turned around and saw a cart with 3 cases of 22lr ammo on it. Limit was one brick each. It was gone in about 3 minutes. I think only 3 bricks made it to behind the counter as customers took it right off of cart as the clerk opened the cases. They had CCI, Federal and American Eagle. They did not bring out any of the Winchester like I was handed 5 minutes earlier. Amazing how fast the ammo disappeared off of that cart. I just happened to be in right place at the right time.

No accidents, Oldman. ><>

Found some too just yesterday, but at 10 cents a round. The only silver lining I can think of is that if any industry needs to be profitable to survive in this country right now, it's the firearms and munitions industry. Let's hope that extra profit is going to their legal and lobbying funds, and not just the boss' bonus.

No offense, but you're are misinformed. Ammo companies haven't raised their prices. Big box stores are selling it for the same price for the last year or two. So is Cabelas. The stores selling it for 10-15 cents a round are the ones making the extra profit. If your local gun store is telling you otherwise, they're lying to you.

FWIW, I've been getting a LOT more emails from various online retailers about 22 ammo coming back in stock. I used to get one, maybe two per day in the wee hours of the AM (PST). For the past few weeks I've been getting closer to four or five per day throughout the morning and afternoon.

I think we should be seeing 22 back in supply relatively soon...I hope..

Same here

Yeah, I hear you. That's why the often maligned Walmart needs some praise on this subject - they sell at non-inflated prices when they get a shipment. My thanks go to Bentonville, Arkansas.

Despite your point, the munitions manufacturers are selling all they can make, which is good for efficiencies and top line sales. The LGS (where I found the 10 cent per round price) and many big box stores are making extra money on our backs, you are right.

Grabbed a Federal target 325 pack the other day from a local gun shop, slightly overpriced but still less than $.10/rd. Haven't scored any from Wal-Mart since they only put it out at 7am which does agree with second shift schedule.

I know, but hard to pass on any bulk. I used to shoot 500+rds per month, but haven't been able to maintain it. So I take what I can when I think it reasonable. Just packed 2k rds for 10 days in Tennessee, and will have to replace that.

I have drifted more toward revolvers (SA/&DA), and away from semi's.

It helps on the budget, and makes for more enjoyable shooting, for me.:)

Ammo Prices

How much?

I think it would be helpful to tell :
1. How many rounds.
2. Price paid.
3. Location.

Also, "A Brick" can vary in the number of rounds.
Condensing #1 & #2 (above) to price per round would work too.

Thanks.:)

The Sellier & Bellot I ordered (5,000 rounds) seems quite reliable and shoots with reasonable accuracy (1" +/- at 50 yards from my Kimber M82.) Cost was right at $5.00 for a box of 50, including shipping.

I just wonder what the heck is going on. You would think that all the "hoarders" would be loaded up and sitting fat and happy by now. I was able to get several thousand rounds for myself and a friend through Cabelas/wikiarms earlier this year - glad I did it then because I haven't seen a thing from them in months.
I don't NEED anymore right now - but the fact that it is STILL "unobtainium" at a reasonable price without camping out at your local WalMart is sorta disturbing...

I stopped in at Bi-Mart on Wednesday and they had 40 boxes of 50 rounds of standard velocity CCI for $3.96 bought my alloted 2 boxes..
They had put it on the shelf on Friday and still had some 5 days later.
They sold the 500 round bricks pretty fast but the other stuff lasted a few days.

I was able to pick up some American Eagle at a LGS today for $2.95 a box (40 grain solid and 36 grain HP). He had several thousand rounds left from his shipment of the day before. No limit but I only grabbed 6 boxes and left some for the next guy..
;)

Grabbed 3 boxes of 50rds subsonic thunderbolt from Bass Pro in Broken Arrow for $4/box. And another 2 boxes of Aguilla HV at $4.50/box at Academy Sports. Academy had plenty of 22 but with a 2 box limit and a price of $5+ for most boxes, I won't be buying from them again. Even Bass Pro was more than I want to pay. Since I was already there, and will be shooting 200+/day next week, I wanted to grab what I could.

Anyone seen snake shot recently? Everywhere I keep asking nobody has seen any since before Christmas.

Bass pro in East Peoria had a pretty good spread as of a couple hours ago. 300rd boxes of mini mags, bricks of Blaser, bricks of Am Eagle hp, and various boxes of 50 and 100 CCI and Win. I picked up a box of CCI .22wmr V-max for $14.99 and a brick of .22lr Blaser for $22.99. I have been hearing guys say its getting better for the last few months or so. This is the first time that Im maybe - just maybe - starting to believe it. I sure hope so, just bought a Kidd trigger pack for my 10/22, so my .22 appetite is likely to spike in the next few weeks.

Thats about the only rimfire I've seen consistently for the last year or so. I guess local demand is pretty minimal.

Nothing in my part of Southwest Florida yet.
Our local Walmarts removed the .22 price stickers off the shelves long ago. Now, you can't even see where the .22 ammo used to be. Nothing but a bare shelf. :(

A LGS here had 500 rd. bricks of Remington Subsonics but I wasn't about to pay that much for substandard velocity LRNs!! :fire: :cuss:

Oh, the price you ask? $43 for 500 rds. (8.6/rd.)!!
:barf:
