The pistol that James Bond should carry!

I always seemed to me (at least during all those cold war years) that the reasonable gun for him to use would be a Makarov. Nowadays, I think he needs a 9mm. Bond seems to be a traditionalist in his tastes so I just cant see him toting around anything polymer. My vote goes to a Sig P239.

Use a firearm from a country that Bond is predominately working against? Not really.

Bond would not use a Glock. Any Glock. British police, like most US departments are budget constrained. Q branch can afford better.

I'd like to see Bond carrying a Kahr K9. The name sounds German and sexy. And, it's a damned fine gun.

Whatever's the most cinematically dramatic one.

I was thinking in terms of a 380ACP pistol which can be deep concealed, but then I remembered that this is a "secret agent" which international villains knows by his real name.

Bond; Walther P5 9x19mm....

Actor Sean Connery packed & used a P5 9mm in the "unauthorized" 007 film; Never Say Never(1983).
I think that was the first time a screen 007 used a 9x19mm sidearm. ;)

I think Timothy Dalton's 007 uses a Walther P5 too in the "training mission" scenes at the UK's Rock of Gibraltar, The Living Daylights(1988).

Read it often enough that real spies and the cloak and dagger assassins like the mouse calibers and mouse guns.

Besides, an undergunned Bond is a more entertaining Bond.

The Kahr MK9 closely resembles Bond's legendary PPK while giving Bond a 9x19 cartridge with the same round count as his PPK and virtually identical dimensions as the PPK. So Bond could switch to the MK9 and most people would never even notice the change, except the bad buys getting shot.

How about a Sig P250 with every barrel option in his sleeves? That way he can change caliber depending on the ammo he finds along the way.

Seriously though, it has to be a Walther.

Dirty Jimmy.....

In one of the 1980s Bond novels, author John Gardner has 007 packing a big single action Ruger Blackhawk .44magnum for "car-stopper" uses.

Id think a real secret agent or any other normal human would lose their hearing & may be blinded by the blast/noise of a full power .44magnum at CQB range inside a motor vehicle.
In 2014, Bond could use a Desert Eagle .50AE, a Ruger AK snub in .454 or .44magnum or maybe a Glock 21 gen 04 with a Guncrafters Industries(GI) .50GI kit. :D
He'd have more rounds than a Ruger Blackhawk & it'd look cool on screen.

Why should a British agent carry an American made pistol? Although I did read that the "real" Q, "Major" Geoffrey Boothroyd, had a personal affinity for S&W revolvers.

007 Carry

Another possibility is the Russian Stechkin APS. It looks like a Makarov on steroids, and uses the same ammo (9x18mm).
Here are some of the reasons "James" might like it :
1. Uses a silencer (British "muffler")
2. Detachable shoulder stock
3. Select fire - semi or fully automatic
4. 20 round magazine
5. Availability of ammo after all those Russian (and the like) agents are eliminated.:D

Imfdb.org....

Now that I recall, Bond(Roger Moore) does briefly tote a S&W 629 .44magnum in Live and Let Die. :D
I think it was a nod by the studios/producers to the popular Dirty Harry cop films of the 1970s.

You all crack me up. Everyone knows that a .380 is more than sufficient for Bond, who can shoot someone between the eyes every time. No need for an "upgrade."

Minor correction....

Imfdb.org states Moore/007 packed a nickeled model 29 .44magnum.
To my limited knowledge the 629 .44magnum was not produced until 1979 or so. The prop .44 may have been nickel, :D .

Rusty,

Folks were likely pimping out Model 29s about a week after they hit the market. N frames that got shiney after they left the factory are not uncommon.

I carried a P7 PSP in the 1980's and I think Bond had it right. For concealed carry in 9 silly meter I really liked its flatness. It pointed well and the sights were easy to see and worked fine.

On the other hand .32 ACP/ 7.65 Browning is available in more contries than most any other center fire cartridge.

Actually I think Bond should carry whatever is available where he goes. Carrying a gun with him makes him stand out to local authorities and using Diplomatic Immunity gets him tracked as well. Meeting another british agent in the target country might get him noticed by the bad guys. Picking up a gun at some pre positioned drop after it has gone through several hands might work. Buying from the local underworld might also get one noticed.

Bond carrying any weapon as "standard" always seemed a bit of a stretch to me.....even in the early pre metal detectors at airports days of the books.

He should just be darned familiar with every weapon he can lay hands on.

Surprise!....

A 1981 007 novel had Bond pressed into a secret mission at the minute. He was working on a training site with some "squadies" from the 22nd SAS so he wore a milspec(not custom) FNH Hi Power 9x19mm. ;)
Bond uses the HP a few times in the story with great results. I think he wore a regular strong-side pancake holster but he may have used his jacket pocket.

Gardner's Q branch & 007 used different systems in the 1980s/early 1990s. Bond wore guns in a "high rise" holster & a few times had custom holsters built into his garments or luggage for going thru customs/airports/denied areas.

Fella's gotta wear tuxedos...

Stick with the Walther and super-human (fictional) proficiency.

Say, when does he go to the range anyhow? What with all the gals, martial arts training, pilot certifications, passport photo taking, poker/baccarat playing and computer hacking classes... Where's the time? Did I mention the gals?
