Why are people dumping their Springfield XDS

I can get my xds9 to choke on old steel cased wolf ammo but that's the only thing I've found to be unreliable. It also seems to have a strong preference for heavier ammo. Probably not worth the $100-150 premium over the S&W Shield unless you have a strong preference for the xd but mine has given me no reason to try anything else. My only experience with the xds45 was also positive, although not very thorough.

The platform is absolutely one of the smallest and most manageable .45 acp platforms you can get.

I don't think so. You can get a Taurus PT-145 Millennium Pro which is shorter, lighter and a whopping quarter of an inch thicker but it has double the capacity of the XDs. I have nothing against SA pistols. I use one in .40S&W as my main carry pistol now. But the .45 Taurus PT-145 Millennium Pro is definitely smaller and every bit as easy to handle as the XDs. Mine holds 10+1 rounds compared to 5+1 in the SA. The length is shorter but it is taller. Neither is much longer or taller than the other. But I get back to the capacity. And the Taurus is lighter. My Taurus is also more accurate than my Springfield and it's been more reliable. I sent the XDm back to the factory after I bought it used and it's been perfectly reliable since then but I got it cheap because it wasn't reliable. But I knew Springfield would fix it for free so I ended up with a great deal on it. But the XDs isn't smaller than my Taurus IMO and the Taurus doubles the capacity. And just for the record my Taurus has never had a single failure of any kind through several thousand rounds.

A quarter inch doesn’t seem like much, but makes a world of difference with comfort and concealment. As to capacity; I’ll worry over that when I start to see reports of concealed carry citizens losing their battles against bad guys because they didn’t have enough cartridges in their guns. I have yet to find even one. I have six in the gun and one or two spare seven round mags on my belt. If that doesn’t take care of things then maybe the handgun wasn’t the right tool to begin with.

When I got mine back after the recall the trigger sucked, but a hundred or so dry-fire pulls of the trigger and it was smoother than before it left. Some XDs owners were whining even before their guns came back from Springfield, complete with vows to sell it immediately and never purchase the brand again. Let them sell, most of us love ours. The XDs is a hella good platform for projecting 230gr bullets.

If you want a .45 that is comfortable & easily controllable, the XDS ain't it.
The grip is coggy and tears up your hands unless you wear gloves...
Gloves add to the problem by creating other issues...

Bottom line, there are other compact pistols that do it better...

"Well I just don't want to be killed for lack of shootin' back." Deputy Clyde

BTW I have guns that are thinner than the XDs. I don't see that there so much easier to conceal because of that slight difference in the thickness of the handle. At any rate the point still stands that XDs .45 is not all alone in a class by itself when it comes to size.

One thing about the XDS, you have to take command of it. No pussyfooting around. You cannot limp wrist it, nor suprise Target squeeze the trigger. You grip it like a choked wildcat, rack the slide like you wanna take it off, and firmly pull the trigger with destinct intention. Now yes, the design of the grip was born out of a cheese grater, but it sure keeps it in place. One thing for sure, it only has a 1 of 2 way outcome, either you will love it 100%, or you will hate it worse than a case of the crabs. I really don't think I have never heard of anybody in the middle.

I have an XDS 4.0 in 9mm with a PRP spring kit installed and TFO'S. The gun has worked flawlessly and is one of my favorites. I see absolutely no reason to part with the XDS.

I am one of the MANY that sent my XDs 45 in for the recall, got it back and the trigger is just right, always was. I shoot my reloads and several different SD loads and never a stoppage. I`ve had it almost two yrs now, it`s my EDC.

I want a second one so, I hope, IF, people ARE dumping them maybe I can get one, at a really good price.

+ 1 i love my little XDs the trigger felt a little gritty when i got it back but after
shooting it a little just as good as it was. no its not the trigger on my XDm

I have one in 9mm with the 4" barrel. I wouldn't mind a .45 in the same barrel length if one came meandering by at the right price.

I like the guns, and they seem to fit me pretty well. No issues with any of them so far, although I don't shoot thousands a rounds per year like some competitors do.

Maybe I'll run across one somebody doesn't want, and snatch it up.

I have never gotten torn up by the grip. Sure, my fingers look like I stuck 'em in a waffle iron, but it's not really painful.

My only issue with the grips is carrying IWB. If the holster doesn't cover the whole grip, it can irritate your side.

Well they must have made more that one trigger after the recall, as mine is better than ever. Short pull. "for a 45 caliber double action carry gun. And short tactile reset. I shoot a lot of different guns, and a 45 pocket gun can't be too touchy, or you will lose the jewels. It works great for me. I can draw and put 6 rounds in a man sized object at 100 feet, in a few seconds. I may not break any records, but for what it is, it works for me.

I bought a new post recall .45 3.0. Didn't like the trigger much after the first couple of range trips. But, I shot it well. By the third trip, It either got better or I got conditioned to it, because it's not so bad, now. It's not a target pistol. It's a CQB carry pistol. and, I think it will work very well in that capacity, if by rare chance I need it to.

I have never had an FTF, FTE or any other problem with any ammo. That and it's ease of carry, secures it as my EDC... Until something better comes along.

The man called it like it is in post #5...at least around here where Springfield Armory originates. Folks at the LGS either love 'em or hate 'em. I shot the .45 XD-S last Summer and loved it *but* it beat me senseless. Guys sent them in for the recall and just couldn't get to liking the new trigger in contrast to what it was before the recall.

One counter Dude at the LGS/Range who let me shoot his XD-S .45 before the recall hated his on return and just complained in rage about how bad the trigger was...let me shoot it again after the recall work was done as he wanted rid of it. I loved it just the same as I did the first time I shot it. I'd a bought it from him but the dang thing literally just makes my hand go numb and grates skin off my hand. Wonderful to conceal and definitely a power house for SD. Love the guns - Can't shoot them enough to get confident for the recoil, muzzle blast, and loss of skin. Follow up shots not possible for me. But I'd have one in a minute if I could handle it.

VooDoo

I bought one directly from Springfield at below dealer cost, sent it back for the recall and then promptly traded it for a NIB Kimber 82G. With the extra magazines and holster I had about $500 into it. It shot ok and was easy to shoot but it was awful to carry so it had to go. I didn't care for the trigger before the recall or after. I have a couple of commander sized 1911s that shoot and carry better than the XD-S 45, but these days I much prefer to carry a Ruger KLCR.

The post recall trigger on mine wasn't what I wanted. It took about 20 minutes (maybe it was 30, I forget) to work it down to a manageable weight. It wasn't hard to do. Some folks either won't spend a few minutes on a search engine to find out how to reduce the XDs trigger pull or they don't want to do it. No matter, they sell it....life goes on.

Mini 9mm and mini 45ACPs are not for everyone, regardless of the brand. A percentage of XDs buyers are 1st time pistol owners and simply aren't experienced enough to manage the pistol....so they end up selling that "unreliable" XDs and then write about it in a forum. LOL!

I picked up a new XDS 45 last April. Traded a Kahr MK9 Steel slide and I'm very happy. It's my standard everyday! Fired at least 1000 rnds and NO issues! Very happy with the unit!

For me the trigger was fine post recall, it's the capacity. The xds is too heavy for pocket carry in my opinion and if I have to belt carry I want more rounds.

I agree that it's a little heavy, but I do pocket carry my XDs9 at times in an Alabama Pocket Holster and it works fine. Most of the time I use a Crossbreed Supertuck and it's perfect.

As for the trigger, I was ready to sell mine post recall because of the increased pull and mostly because of the grittiness, but now after many hundred rounds, it's smoothed out and I'm back to enjoying shooting it again.

To me, it strikes the right balance between a little tiny gun that I'd only want to carry and a big gun that can be fun to shoot at the range but too heavy to haul around inside my waistband all day.

I generally keep my XDs in a little zipper case that looks just like someone's... mmmm.... zipper case of some kind! Nobody would guess it's a gun, as it's so small. It could be something like an old Day Timer, but way smaller.

That aside, my post-recall XDs has functioned fine. I put a Powder River spring kit in it an it functions even better. It's not a range gun, but once you've verified its function and spent some time with it, it's a dandy little pistol to have anywhere close.

That's my personal take and I'm not getting rid of mine by any means.

I don't know about people, but I'm not dumping mine. It came back from the recall last year with a slightly gritty trigger that smoothed out real nicely after lots of dry firing and a few mags of WWB.

I really like having 45acp firepower in such a compact package.
