9 mm with a short trigger pull

My dad had the exact same problem. After a lot of shopping he settled on a Beretta Px4. His trigger finger had quite a crook in the last joint and the Px4 seemed to do the trick.

The new production Serbia Zastava m70A is 9mm. This is a Tokarev design. This is perfect for small hands. You want short reach and slim grip. The Zastava is the one. Both 1911 and Hi Power have short reach; but they have fat wide grips.

I'm not clear if the OP is asking for something with a short reach to the trigger, a short trigger pull, or both.

As for Sig's, most have the option of installing a short reach trigger which I think was mentioned already. There is also the SRT short reset trigger modification that Sig can do, but I don't think this would have any effect on the first double-action pull. Perhaps a DAK model or HK's LEM might help.

My understanding is that he's asking for both. Basically, a single-action 9mm semi-auto.

The Sig DA/SA guns, as well as the DAK guns still have a long reach to the DA trigger. That's why I suggested a Sig 226 SAO. It's got ambidextrous thumb safeties, a crisp single action only trigger pull, and a short trigger reach. Think of it as a 9mm double-stack 1911 - only reliable...:neener:

Daewoo DP-51. I sold it because of the short trigger reach. The guy who bought it was looking for it specifically for the short trigger reach. It's made in South Korea. They must have small hands over there. I had to curl my finger to point backwards, finger tip on the trigger, to get it to fire. Or pull it with the middle section of my trigger finger. The reach is super short!

You can sorta carry it cocked and locked, SA only, but if you press on the back of the hammer, the bulk of the hammer goes down and the trigger pops forward. So it's not really designed for true SA unless you have a holster that would keep the hammer back. So that increases the trigger reach on the first shot, potentially. But it's only a really light DA part of the pull, and the break is the same as the SA. IIRC, you can also, alternatively, pull back the "hammer" with just a light touch and the trigger goes back to SA position, as well.

The guy who I sold it to was quite senior. I wonder if he had arthritis, too. He shot one years back and was now looking for one for the short trigger reach. And he bought it after looking, so I guess it works for him. He also regaled me with stories of the hundreds of thousands worth of guns that he bought and sold over the years as a gun dealer. He bought out firearm estate sales here and there and made some good money, I take it. Any rate, I think it's safe to say that he was fairly knowledgeable about firearms, and he was looking for this.

It's almost like the engineers were told to make the trigger reach as short as possible. And they exceeded beyond all expectations. Looking at my hand, I can't figure out how they made the trigger reach that short on a double stack pistol that holds 15. It's redeculous.

This post makes me sad. My favorite pistol is a G21, and I can barely reach the trigger, properly. It would be sad to say goodbye to it due to arthritis.

Thanks everyone. I have never seen Daewoo or single-action P226, but Walther PPS does it for me. It's trigger length or reach is 2.7 inch, smaller than Sig with SRT. It is also quite shootable for its size and easy to rack the slide. Mag release is easy to reach with my crooked fingers. I am going to get it. Best wishes to all.

Short trigger

Spent some time trying out various compact 9mm... Size 13 hands.

Liked the idea of the LC9, but hate the trigger...hard to pull unless I consciously just used tip of finger.

Well the P938 trigger is very good! My big finger fit in the trigger guard too.

I bought a "Sport" model from Palmeto State Armory for a good price.

For something that is small and fairly inexpensive, get a M&P Shield and replace the trigger with the Apex kit.

Walther PPS is a great pistol. It fits my hand very well and the trigger reach is very comfortable and actually shorter than PPQ by about 0.1 inch. The trigger pull improved after about 300 rds fired and is crisp and breaks cleanly and smoothly at 5.5 lbs. I like the trigger better than Kahr's P9, the size is about the same. The PPS is plenty accurate to 20 yrds for its size. Walther warranty is pretty good, I ordered 2 extra mags and a spring assembly from them without problems. So overall, a happy camper.

Best thing is to go to a show or large gun store and try a couple dozen till you find the one that suits you. I saw an Alligator doing this the other day, and they have some short hands.
