I want to thank Palmetto State Armory for breaking the price lock on AR10 rifles. These things have been priced way too high for the longest time.

Thoughts on PSA AR10s?

When will the longstanding prices on other .308s come down?

Why buy an AR10 from anyone else when PSA's prices are so great?

Because the quality of the psa guns is totally unproven. I can just about guarantee you that it is no KAC. I don't know how closely you have been paying attention but the psa 308 launch has not been without issues.

Don't forget the DPMS G2. I bought one last month. Great gun and I got it for a good price.
When I looked at PSA they didn't have anything in stock.

Assuming they are in stock, or perhaps the buyer doesn't want to wait for weeks or months for the gun to ship. I am sure there are other reasons, but that will do for now.

Oh and for what its worth, you might want to keep in mind the old axiom, "you get what you pay for"

Prices on other brands HAVE come down pretty dramatically in the last few years...........legit competition does that

The prices arent that great, AR10's are coming down in price very quickly, now that more 'n more manufacturers are getting into the game. Still not a big fan of the AR10 myself, I prefer my VEPR .308. It weighs 8lb 10oz, lighter that any other .308 battle rifle, with a 23" barrel (and lighter than most 16" 308 semi's) and is AK reliable. 2moa with cheap FMJ is good enough for me. I also helps that I got it for $600 brand new, before the sanctions...:D

Because there are plenty of guns available for not much more money that have a proven track record, and companies that back them up with actual customer service.

what other companies are putting out AR10s for close to the same amount of money as PSA? I am waiting for black friday deals to buy one but will almost certainly pull the trigger on SOMETHING .308. Very relevant to my interests!

I got mine in 3 days and has been 100 % reliable through a few hundred rounds. It was 1000 dollars out the door with shipping and ffl, and has a Midwest industries handguard. It's not an lmt but its also not 2800 dollars. Yes it has some compatability issues with other lowers and certain geiselle triggers. Mine has a 3.5# CMC and it works perfect. I actually messed up one of the trigger pins trying to get it in and of a dpms 308 I sold to fund the psa with money left over. The pins fit the psa fine.

Worth repeating.

My upper shipped the day after I bought it, I received it the next day. No complaints about shipping speed.

As far as I know, the main issues found by other folks were:
-Didn't work with all DMPS uppers/lowers
-Didn't work with the Geiselle SSA triggers

I used a PSA Upper and lower combo, and Geiselle made documentation to show where to remove a little material from non-essential areas of the hammer hook to resolve the issue.

Mine is rough on brass, but PSA is shipping out new parts to try and resolve the issue. No complaints yet.

Got my 16 inch PSA PA10 upper and lower parts kit sitting the safe waiting on the stripped P-TAC lower I ordered yesterday to get here. I bought a VZ2008 from them last last spring so I was well aware of the wait times and was OK with that, however, I had the upper in less than a week with standard shipping. We will see how long the lower takes.

All told, with shipping, transfer fee, I will be into it ~$650, with some assembly required.

This would be the price point I expect and even $600 while PSA still have issues to work out and 5.56 AR price is down to $450. Somehow 18"s are more expensive than 16"s, I prefer 18" and like PSA to sort out compatibility issues.

It's funny if you ask whether or not to buy a dpms or cheap ar 15 and all everyone says is how great theirs is and you don't need to spend all the money on a bcm or dd. Now psa has a 308 for under 1000 dollars and its you need to spend more. Everyone on the 1000 to 1500 dollars level has skimped on something. Dpms went through all the trouble to make the g2 series and couldn't even make the buffer tube a mil spec diameter, armalite uses 4140 barrel steel instead of 4150, s&w was having problems reliably cycling 7.62 nato ammo, windham and s&w are proprietary parts that are not all interchangeable. Has anyone come across anything with someone stating theirs fell apart or parts broke. When the ruger 762 first came out they wouldn't work with g3 pmags. Ruger wasn't a giant piece of crap for it. If someone knows we're to buy an lmt quality 308 for under 1200 dollars let me know.

To me, the PSA 308 was just too low cost to pass up

The feedback on their 223 rifles (not PTAC or Freedom) has been steller

I dont really need one, but at under $200 for a 308 lower with LPK, I spent the $

The lower looks great

Just have to get some more $$ to complete

Blood drive?

Donate kidney?

I have all kinds of PSA products. Their barrels are (typically, not always) made by FN, which is nearby PSA.

I've never had a problem with any PSA products. The wait time can be a PITA, but all my 5.56 ARs have worked perfectly. I even have a dirt cheap PTAC upper that was only $189, and it is as accurate as any rifle I have.

If the .308 PSA's are having trouble, now is the time to bring it up.

The lowers use proprietary parts and are not compatible with many triggers. This is not indicated on their site at all, you must buy their LPK to put it together. Would've been a lot smarter to introduce the lower using the DPMS style parts to try making a standard across the board.

They use a longer than normal receiver extension which requires an AR15 carbine buffer, not an AR10 buffer. Some of their kits shipped with an AR10 buffer which will allow the bolt to slam into the back of the lower and receiver extension. The bolt is not standard style (like an AR15) that will fit all the way into the RE, it has a wider shoulder. This problem is also not documented on their site.

It may well be a good product but their launch has been pretty bad, a lot of issues that weren't documented and haven't been openly acknowledged which cause build issues or damage to rifles.

I, too, have had good experiences with PSA in 5.56.
I am wanting an 18 or 20 inch upper for my DMPS
pattern lower. I had heard that the PSA complete
uppers were not compatible with the DMPS and sent
PSA an email, asking about this. Here is the reply:

"Hello,
Thank you for contacting Palmetto State Armory! Unfortuantly we can not guarantee that our AR10 parts will fit properly or function with another manufactures products. We recommend sticking to to strictly all Palmetto State Armory parts when building the PA10 rifle.

Thank you,

Cody

I have had bad luck with PSA branded items. I buy ammo and some parts from PSA, but never high dollar items. The special LPK is a no go for me.

As mentioned above the DPMS G2 or Areo Precision M5 would be my choice if buying a .308 AR today.

I wouldn't say that. And honestly I would smile and walk away from anyone that did.

Cheap AR's have their place, as do expensive ones. It all depends on your prospective use of the rifle. Plan to plink/shoot coyotes on the weekend? Get a cheap AR. Plan to compete or looking for a tough shtf AR? Go expensive. Thats whats so great about the AR market, there is something for everyone and every budget.

Though I will say its pretty hard to beat a BCM complete upper with Gunfighter CH and Mod 0 flash hider for $440..... Even a complete PSA Premium will be near the same price.
