Ruger 1911 Talo Edition

Yes, I saw them in my local shop a week or so ago. I just got three nice 1911s since July, so, I don't need one. But, they did look nice.

Don't need one, but I dig that commander. If Ruger were to come out with a bobtail Super 38, I'd be pretty tempted.

Just to make sure I'm not missing anything, the only difference from a standard Ruger 1911 is these are black? That's what makes it "TALO distributor limited edition"?

The government model says it comes with tritium sights. Many Talo editions don't come with much beyond a quality coating, nice grips and upgraded sights. They don't typically cost an arm and a leg, either.

It all depends on the price for me. I added the sights of my choice (10-8 rear and novak tritium front), then had the shallow (and ugly IMHO) laser cut emblems removed and coated. Figure $200 - $300 to farm all that out on top of the pistol. What it really needs is front strap checkering and an undercut on the trigger guard. I honestly didn't want to put that kind of money into a Ruger, though. It's a great shooter as is.

Talo's Colt's are usually more interesting. The Talo CCO Clapp is super nice with many custom touches. Beautiful in person.

Talo doesn't list these models yet and the Ruger website isn't too descriptive, but it basically looks like a coating and different sights for each.

Not feeling the love. I have respect for Ruger but Talo usually adds more appeal to their offerings than what I'm seeing in the pics. Is there something else that makes these special, besides the color?
I just bought two 1911's late this year, my first and perhaps last as the CA DOJ has radically reduced the choice of handguns that can be purchased beginning 1/1/15 so I'm out. I can only look and drool from now on, though not drooling in this case.

Must be the deal they have with Ruger. The Clapp sp-101 didn't have anything other than a duracoat, grips and novak style rear sight added to it, along with a brass bead front. Most Ruger Talo's I've seen didn't add a ton of features. Maybe they (Ruger) want to keep the cost down. I know with Colt some Talo's go all out and others have just a few minor tweaks. They probably figure they can sell more $800 - $1000 Talo rugers than $1500+ Talo rugers.

I agree though, I won't sell mine to get one. I like mine better. Now if they decided to checker the front strap, undercut the trigger guard and/or de-horn the slide/frame...these would be really exciting IMHO.

From what I have been seeing these have been selling for right around $800 (at least the ad I saw from an FFL at rugerforum.com had them for $799 shipped IIRC). It is just night sights, a black nitrided coating and different grips. I like the way they look except for the grips. I'm not buying anything right now though.

Like the Commander length model but would rather have the Colt Wiley Clapp CCO model instead.

I would still rather do it my own way

Ruger Transform - Started life as a Ruger Commander, full review including ransom rest testing http://www.dayattherange.com/?p=3416

Original weight 36.40 ounces
Current weight after putting it on a diet lightening the slide and bobtailing the frame it is 31.68 ounces

Swapped out all the black Ruger parts except for the magazine release so that it would match the black screws and black pins. The beavertail grip safety is a Smith & Alexander, the rest of the parts are now hand fitted Ed Brown parts including the mainspring housing.

Old trigger broke at 4.2pounds new trigger breaks at 2.8 - 3 pounds. I know the trigger is light for a carry pistol but this will never be a carry pistol. I just wanted a custom bobtail 1911. The total cost of the pistol and work was quite a bit less than a new Dan Wesson.

Changed out the old sites for Trijicon front and Novak rear.

My gunsmith did a great job and it only took him a few weeks. What do you guys think? I absolutely love it.

Nice conversion job! I have the Ruger SR1911 Commander and have been very happy with it. It shoots great, both factory and reloads and is accurate for it's price.
