How bad is Vivek Murthy's appointment to Surgeon General?

Difficult to say. Will he still remain objective as the Surgeon General, or will he allow special interest groups and personal political feelings to overly influence his position?

We are all entitled to our own political beliefs, but it becomes the public's business when we want to run for or be appointed to a public office.

A fairly new field of battle is opening up as a player in the RTKBA .

That field is primarily centered around the mental health issue, and its effect will continue to expand and invade into area's previously not thought about .

The past diffinitions of being too mentaly ill to handle the responsibility of owning a firearm will be adjusted to a tighter standard. How tight ? Well, the more anti gun the SG, the more potential danger there is in the answer to that question.

He was described on CBS News last night as "an activist and pro anti-gun". That's how the liberal MSM sees him!

You can be sure he's going to work with CDC to make guns and gun ownership a "health issue".

Lawlessness has no bounds; especially when those who can exert their corrective authority won't do so.

US Surgeon Generals.....

I do not put to much stock in US Surgeon Generals.
If you asked 100 US citizens from 4 sections of the United States, I doubt more than 5% could even tell you who the current US Surgeon General is or what they do.

A few have had short tenures due to their political views or misguided remarks.
Richard Corona, the SE Asia combat veteran & former "SWAT Doc"(a sworn LE officer and certified first responder/SWAT medic) claimed that obesity was far worse than terrorism & should be the top priority.
That didn't go over very well with President Bush or his administration.

Dr Jocelyn Elders pushed for sex ed & birth control. She also wanted more AIDS prevention and STD awareness. She was gone in about 2 FYs. :uhoh:

Guns and gun control are political issues but any medical or healthcare factors get quickly ignored.
My state recently passed new statues saying medical doctors can't ask about concealed carry licenses or guns.
That's smart, guns and gun ownership shouldn't be a medical issue unless a mental health professional or hospital can document it.

Murthy himself has said that he doesn't consider guns to be a priority. Which he shouldn't, given all of the legit health problems that this nation faces.

Maybe he can have NIH start funding research into actual diseases, rather than spending millions to fund targeted advertising in Southern California to get hipsters in bars to stop smoking.

Surprise. Surprise. yet another antigun zealot from obama. his appointment will revive the stupid and destructive (clinton era) practice of treating guns as a disease. Stand by for gun ownership to be treated as a dangerous health issue again!

More funding for antigun research as compared to neutral research that tries to find out what actually is the case.

Murthy got snuck in before the Senate goes GOP in a few weeks. As expected. Mr. Murthy does not like firearms very much and probably would enjoy destroying as many as possible, Australian style.

As SG he will probably be a minor player. and if all goes well, a short term failure like Ms. Elders. :scrutiny:

What anti-gun actions can he take as Surgeon General? How bad is Vivek Murthy's appointment to Surgeon General?

I don't know if he'll promote a way of getting gun ownership included as a flag on ones medical records ... but "why risk it?". So, don't allow your children alone time w/ a physician as they have seem to be asking, even pre-Murthy, if there are guns in the home. In addition, if you (and/or family) are asked the answer is NO. Don't hesitate; don't respond "I won't answer that"; don't look elsewhere when speaking ... all "iffy" answers will be viewed as "Yes".

With the ACA and more and more insurance being funded by tax dollars, it could be a real issue. I could see a lot of people one day being priced out of firearms ownership due to insurance premiums. But considering what the current Marxist leadership is doing to destroy this once great nation, this probably shouldn't warrant too much anxiety. :)

He'll certainly support the " Lead in bullets is deadly" façade, and attempt to limit shooting and hunting on "Government" land.

Gun ownership?.....

With things like Ebola, AIDS, diabetes, obesity, drug abuse, etc Id think the US Surgeon General will have more significant issues to be concerned with than guns.
The US farming & agricultural industry has a epidemic with pigs. 1000s of pigs are dying & there's no clear treatment. It may pass to humans too at some point.
But this problem gets little or no attention.

Why the SG would even discuss it is beyond me, but assuming that they do go about guns as a disease, I say that we lobby hard as hell for the meetings to take place in east saint louis IL, ferguson missouri, the bronx NY, memphis TN, compton CA, oakland CA, detroit MI (8 mile or 9 mile will do nicely, even the old track on racetrack road), or any other crime infested area...at night...with no armed security. If they want to force us into that position, then should see it firsthand themselves

He wasn't snuck in. The Boehnerites took a pass and didn't even whimper.
As SG he'll put out "Reports" on the Serious damage to "public safety" caused by evil guns.

So, you are saying after the House and Senate are both GOP controlled in January, ,this leftist would still have gotten the appointment? Maybe, maybe not. :scrutiny:

He considers any interest or owning of firearms to be a mental defect. And yeah he could do all sorts of damage with that position and mindset.

If this current administration has taught me anything, it is some politicians like to focus on problems and questions that nobody asks. While the rest of the world is standing next to a chalk board with the problems you listed saying "Really?" Usually some report lands on some politicians desk, or they go into the position with a notion in mind (like Dr. Murthy) and say "We must do something about this." When there are bigger fish to fry.
