I was at my LGS today looking at the glock 26 and it was a gen 4 with the new spring that I really don't like. I told the clerk that I was interested in the gen 3 because I wanted one with a old stlye spring like in my gen 3 G23 and the guy told me that the G26 have always had the double recoil springs. If this is true then I had absolutely no idea and If so is the G26 still available with the old style springs?

The double sprung captive recoil spring assembly (RSA) is the 'old-style' RSA for the subcompact G26. (The same one is used in the G26/27/33/39, BTW.)

It was for the Gen4 guns in compact & full-size that they changed from the previous single spring RSA's to double sprung assemblies. Your "Gen3" G23 uses the old-style single spring RSA, and the Gen4 G23 uses the new double sprung RSA.

They've made revisions to the subcompact RSA's over time, too.

Oh ok! So the 26 has had the same double spring ever since it was released? So there is no real advantage for finding a gen 3?

Depends on what kind of upgrades you want to do.. Gen 1-3 will always have better triggers due to the changes in angles in G4's. This rings true for aftermarket triggers too. Other than that whatever floats your boat.

I have a 3.5# connector & NY-1 trigger spring along with a smooth face trigger installed in my Gen 3 G26 and the set up is Sweeeeeeet!
Better than the BEST double action snub revolver action job :)

Ok well if the recoil springs are the same on all models then I'll probably just buy whatever one I can get a good deal on in the used market. It will probably be a gen 3 because they have a cheaper retail price to begin with. The only "upgrade" is maybe some talon grip tape and a desantis iwb holster.

I have a Gen4 G26....shot the other Gens and preferred (except for the trigger) the Gen4 mostly because of the backstraps and after about 3000 trigger pulls the difference in triggers is now negligible.

I prefer the Gen4's at least in the G19 and G26.

VooDoo

I have G26s in both Gen3 and Gen4.

I prefer the Gen4 but they are both great. Go fondle them at the shop and see which fits your hand better. Consider the third magazine that comes with the Gen4 when comparing prices. You can't go wrong. I did put rubber textured Talon grips on the Gen3. The Gen4 needs no such thing, and feels slimmer/grips better IMO.

And yes the sub compacts like the G26 have had the dual recoil spring assembly all along, it's only the larger models that went from single to double with the new gen.

One advantage of MOST pre 2010 gen3's is the frying pan finish. The current finish scratches off very easily, although it's only cosmetic. The steel underneath the top finish is what is carburized, making it scratch and rust-proof. The slick frying pan finish lasts forever. And even when it starts to wear, it's not nearly as noticeable, since this finish is super thin.

My GF's 3 yr old gen4 glock showed more and uglier wear after 1 month than my oldest gen 3 has, going on 10 years. The new finish provides a better grip when racking the slide, though.

That's a good point. I have a couple Gen3s, one each from 2005 and 2009. I much prefer their finish to my newer models. It's cosmetic only of course as you say so it really doesn't matter, which is why I still bought and would still buy new ones without batting an eye, but it's worth mentioning.

That old 'frying pan finish' is just outstandingly durable. I got my Gen3 G26 in 2005 and have carried it more than all other guns combined since then, probably...it shows less wear than the Gen4 I got this summer.

I have a gen 3 and am carrying it every day. I am considering selling it to get a 4. Reasons being texture of grip and the size if the grip. My gen 4 19 fits my hand great and I thing the texture will help me keep my grip

The Gen4 is definitely easier to grip. They say the grip is basically the same size as the Gen3 but it sure feels slimmer and is just plain 'grippier'.

A rubber Talon grip on the Gen3 helps IMO

I'm getting close to 500 rounds of reloads through my gen4, 26, and so far, so good. Love the grip and the trigger.
