I am looking for my first gun belt. What I'd like:

- relatively inexpensive ($40 or less), so that I could eventually get a few and rotate between them.

- durable, my "regular" leather belts typically last a year or so, I'd expect a quality gun belt last longer even if worn daily

- not a "tacticool", plasticy, easily recognizable type

- something that can be worn with a variety of closing without really looking odd. I.e. a not too flashy dress type black belt.

The gun to carry will be mostly G26 but sometimes G17, in a Galco King Tuk.

There's plenty of stuff on Amazon and other sites but I'd like to get a recommendation from someone who has actually been using one for a few years of EDC.

TIA

At right about forty bucks, you can't go wrong with a Wilderness Products gun belt. I have several and think they are the best available at the price. Double the price and you can get something that works just as well and looks better. But good quality for forty bucks is a small segment of the market.

Look for a Propper 180 (Link); it's essentially a Wilderness belt (two layers of scuba webbing, five rows of stitching) with a 'normal' buckle. Much less obvious, IMHO, than the Wilderness buckle.

As a bonus, it's reversible, and can be found on sale for ~$10; the last two I bought (I have all three colors) were actually under $10 shipped.

I have found that Jim the Beltman is the ticket for a good gun belt. You won't get one for $40, but I am on year 7 for mine. You get what you pay for.

When I started carrying concealed 6 years ago I went to my local saddlery and bought 1 1/2" by 40" of saddle cinch, some leather laces and a sturdy buckle for less then $25.00. Still using it to support a Kimber UCC II, extra magazine and a knife.

I've never really owned a "gun belt", but recently, while at a Red Wing shoe store they had some really nice leather belts for sale. Most were black cowhide, in varying widths and were $42. Well made with a decent buckle so I bought one. The clip on my IWB Tagua holster grips it nice and snug.

Hanks amish belt has been my daily wear for over 3 years and still going strong. If/when it ever wears out I will get another.

I keep mentioning it, and it seems to be ignored, but Crossbreed has a separate "seconds" website where they sell their blems. It's a gun belt no question about it, and will rival anyting you will get from anywhere else for the price. I have a Beltman belt as well, and they're equally stiff.

I bought two (one for me and one for my wife) and I never could find the defect. If you want a quality leather belt in that price range, give them a look.

Wanderling, remember that a proper "gun belt" is more important than the holster for proper and comfortable carry. Cheap leather tends to lose its' shape and will ware out fairly quickly. So don't scrimp on a belt.

Bullhide belts was offering a sale on their basic dress belts, which I found to be much thicker than a standard dress belt. The belt I received was sturdy enough to do double duty as a gun belt. These belts are very capable of being used for both a regular dress belt and a gun belt.

My gun belt for the last many years has been a simple Velcro belt. Get one large enough to fit over whatever you might want to wear. I use mine in the summer and in the coldest winter months. Simply wrap it around your waist. Not all that authentic, but very practical.

Hank's Bull Belt

I got one of these for Christmas, and it is superb. I also have the gunner which was mentioned in an earlier post, but this one is a step up. If you sign up for their mailing list you should get a 20% or more coupon that would get you really close to your $40 mark, but even at regular price I think it is a deal. Great gunbelt made of thick, quality leather. It is a legitimate 1/4+" thick along its length. If you want leather, this is one to look at. Most leather belts this good cost much more.

Spats is right on. My LGS carries the plain black econobelt from Desantis for $19.99. They have loads of them, and sell them by the truckload.
I have one and it has held up very nicely do daily use with steel K frames and a government model being regular carry guns. None of these are lightweight guns and no doubt about it, that belt is serious value for the money. I don't expect it to be the quality of Beltman or similar. But it's also 1/3 the price and almost as good.
I'd buy another of these in a flash and I don't hesitate even for a moment to recommend them.

I just look for a good saddle grade (embossed/carved) or a good bridle grade leather belt. There is no such thing as gun grade leather, just a brand name that will take $50 out of your pocket. eBay or your neighborhood saddle shop will have a good belt in your price range. I don't mean a saddle shop that sells saddles. I mean a saddle shop that repairs saddles.

My latest belt is an Ariat I picked up at a Cavender's out in Midland for about $50 I think. Been wearing it daily going on two years without a problem. My carry is OWB normally, and varies from a CZ83 to a full size 1911. My previous belt was a dbl. thick backyard one off custom last still works well. Close to ten years old. Don't wear it as often due to paint, oil, blood, etc. stains on it.

If it's not at least a double layer belt I'd have a very hard time calling it a gun belt. When I think gun belt, i think double layered, possibly with stiffener.
I have a double layer horse hide belt from the belt man that's still extremely still on year 5 or 6 can't remember exacty. The Carhartt belts I've owned before could be rolled up in a very few months, definitely NOT gun belts.

The belt man belts are the only ones I'd reccomend, others may be fine but I bought a beltman first and have had no problems.....other than the initial price. Other belts my be fine but I wouldn't know it, I'd just advise to stay away from single layer belts, no matter the thickness or width.

If you do nothing else got to the beltman's web site and read about belts strickly for the info on how to pick out a belt.
