Anyone know if the .44 Colt clone (Italian) handguns are chambered for .430" bullets or the original .451"?

Ooops... I think I'm in the wrong category...my bad.

The reason I asked is Cimarron sells an 1860 Richards-Mason conversion they say shoots both the .44 Colt and the .44 Russian (.430").

.451 for the colt clones... I tend to use .454 as well with no ill effects..

That's not true.
I have two Uberti .44 Colt 1872 Open Tops and can assure you they are bored and rifled for .429/.430" bullets.
The cartridges are loaded like longer versions of the .44 Russian or shorter .44 Specials and do NOT use the old style heeled bullets.
You can use .44 Russian ammunition in .the .44 Colt chambered guns and you can use .44 Special-.44 Colt-.44 Russian in the .44 Special chambered guns. HTH

I think post 3 was talking about cap guns, not cartridge guns.
The 44 Open Tops and RM Conversions are .430 guns
The 44 Specials shoot 44 Colt (shorter) & 44 Russians (shortest)
The 44 cap guns (1860s) are for .451 round balls (Pietta) or .454 round balls (Uberti)

Yep, the .44Colt 1860's and 1871-1872 Open Top models use standard inside lubed .430" cast bullets.

My original 1886 Colt Army Model P in .44-40 uses .426" diameter bullets.

I reload using a Lyman Ideal 310 six die set.

The 44 WCF is a different cartridge from the 44 Colt. By the way, newer firearms chambered for the 44 WCF use a 43 caliber bullet like the newer 44 Colts.

When Colt came out with the Frontier model in 1878 it was chambered in the .44 wcf only to match the 73 Winchester rifle for interchangeability.
