After purchasing a Colt 6720, I find that due to the light barrel, it jumps around a bit more when firing. With the plethora of muzzle brakes out there, I'd love to hear from THR members what works best for them. Price isnt a huge issue, so long as it isnt triple digits.

My parameter's are simple.

1. Well reduced muzzle climb
2. Flash signature that isnt *worse than a standard A2 cage
3. A design that doesnt blow your own earmuffs off with side/back blast

I tried the Rainier XTC and the sideblast was brutal. Made the rifle sound twice as loud, through 32nrr earplugs! As the shooter, I actually felt the blast hit me...

Primary Weapon Systems' FSC-556.

Gives me a golf ball-sized fireball with XM193, and really reduces muzzle movement. It's not a loud comp, either. I've had no problems shooting with only Howard Leight Impact Sports (which don't do much for pressure on their own), and with just ear plugs, the extra blast is unnoticeable to me.

Bud's has them for $75, but everyone else has them for $100.

Check out kineti-tec. They have a two piece design that's pretty cool. I'm ordering one for my 300 blackout pistol build. It's a linear style comp. Or remove the shroud and it's a standard comp. I also really like levang. Don't know you can still get them

Effective braking action and not blowing you hair off or increasing muzzle flash is difficult to do.

Much easier is something like the PWS compensator, which is a flash hider and suppreses muzzle climb. It doesn't do jack for recoil, but with 556 that's usually not the real problem.

The issued A2 muzzle device is actually one of the better ones for reducing muzzle signature. While you'll find many to mitigate muzzle climb, most of those will also have more visible muzzle flash.

The PWS strikes a great balance between control and flash. I'm not exaggerating about a golf-ball sized fireball, which I only can see from the side of the rifle. It's in the "comp" portion, the flash hider portion does a fantastic job.

currently using the aac 3 prong in my 300 blk build and the standard a2 in my bushmaster m4. can't really tell the difference as far as recoil (perhaps better felt in full auto fire) but i haven't yet to see any flash on my 3 prong and plenty on my a2... i handload for both and load em near max.

I have bought 3 of these, They are made by a company in Colorado called High Tec customs, Owner is Rich Riley
Recoil reduction is 65%, The shooter does not get blasted, The guy next to you will not be so happy, They made my 300WM shoot like a 223 seriously.

I like the Troy claymore. They push everything straight forward. DEFINATELY quieter than a regular a2 birdcage. Not sure about fireball though.
Claymore on right
The one on the left reduces recoil go almost nothing but it's LOUD and lots of muzzle slap to the shooter. I got both off eBay. The Troy was 65. The other 25

A muzzle brake isn't going to substantially reduce muzzle jump on a 16" bbl with a carbine length gas system. You'll achieve better results by replacing the stock carbine buffer with an H2 buffer to slow the rearward velocity of the bolt carrier.

Then if you still think you need a muzzle device I suggest the PWS FSC-556

A muzzle brake reduces recoil. Propellant gases hit the internal flat surface of the brake to pull the gun forward.

A compensator reduces muzzle jump. Propellant gases are vented upward that act as a retrorocket thruster to counter muzzle jump.

Have you seen the vuurwapen blog posting about AR muzzle breaks/flash hiders?
