I was told today that Para was making Auto Ordnance 45s. I knew that Kahr had established some relationship with AO but I was unaware of any Para/AO dealings. Can someone clarify this?

Para Ord...

Para Ordinance is the old company name.
The firm moved to North Carolina then became Para USA. :D

I haven't heard any formal news of Para USA folding into Kahr Arms or Remington. I have read & seen Para USA saying they were going to shut down in NC & relocate to AL but they made no direct connection to Remington.

Para USA .45acp pistols(1911s) seem very well made. Much better than Kimber America in 2015 .
I plan to buy a GI 1911a1 .45acp for a collector/aniversary project next year(2016). I was thinking of buying a milspec Auto Ord US Army .45acp pistol.

Try reading. TheFirearmBlog has the press release from Remington stating Para Usa is being rebranded under Remington while keeping all the model names.

With all the problems Remington has been having lately, I will not be getting anything made in the Remington house with Para specs. I get the feeling it will be similar to the Remlins (Remington Marlins).

7 sounds a tad harsh for The High Road, .
I nor any other member can read or get every press release or PR article related to the US shooting sports industry.

If you have details or material to share please do, but you don't need to be insulting or condescending about it.

This forum seems to have taken a serious downturn in the last 6-12mo.
Members(and staff) should be civil & polite. I've been on & off this forum since 2006. It wasn't like this in the late 2000s. :uhoh:

02-09-2015. Remington press release announcing the integration of Para USA

At Remington Outdoor Company (“ROC”) we develop, manufacture and market the highest quality firearms, ammunition, and related products. We have built ROC by acquiring and cultivating great brands and products, such as the Remington 870 and 700, DPMS rifles, AAC suppressors, Barnes Bullets ammunition, Para USA handguns, and more while continuously investing in our people and facilities. In 2011 Remington re-entered the handgun market with the critically acclaimed R1 1911, an updated version of the 1911 Remington made for the US government in World War I. Most of ROC’s new product launches and acquisitions have gone well, but they aren’t always perfect and, candidly, we did a poor job with the Marlin factory relocation and the R51 launch. These were expensive but valuable lessons.

In 2012, with a goal of expanding its handgun line, ROC acquired Para USA (“Para”), a company that specialized in the production of competition, high capacity, and double action 1911-style pistols. Following Remington’s acquisition, Para, which had been experiencing quality control issues, saw a steep decline in warranty claims.

In 2014, ROC announced its new, world-class firearms center of excellence in Huntsville, Alabama. Here, Remington is integrating product development, engineering, production, and quality control - a first in Remington’s 200-year history. The integration of modern sporting rifles, suppressors, and Remington pistols commenced immediately, and Para is scheduled to move to Huntsville next month.

Para’s products have a strong following due to their key technical and performance features, which are different than many 1911s, including Remington’s own R1 line. ROC intends to keep these features and benefits that our customers have come to trust, while transferring Para’s operations to Huntsville and rebranding Para to Remington. We have learned from our mistakes, listened to our customers, and have a clear plan to smoothly integrate Para. This includes keeping popular Para products, characteristics, and names such as the “Warthog,” while improving quality with state-of-the art machining and engineering in Huntsville, AL.

Further, ROC will recognize and continue to support Para’s Lifetime Warranty promise on all Para handguns.

For assistance with Para warranty inquires, please call 888-999-9386 or email us at [email protected].

Was not trying to be rude or condescending. You said yourself you hadn't heard anything formal about a rebrand. Firearmblog has it straight from the horse's mouth (Remington so to speak). It is a good idea to follow that blog, they do a ton of firearm research and makes it easier to stay up to date.

Thank you for the information Herrwalther. Will be adding that to my collection of bookmarks. Also want to thank Quiet for the instant information.

LDA format....

I'm curious to know if Para USA/Remington will continue to handfit pistols or if they will go with CAD or machines to mass produce 1911 models.
The LDA or light double action always seemed like a great concept to me for armed professionals & CCW license holders but the DA only 1911 format doesn't seem to appeal to most US gun owners & buyers.

LDA

I have had one of the new LDA Officers models on backorder since last May(they are still listed as coming soon on Para website), and got a little worried when I heard they were going under the Remington name. I called CS and they said that they will continue to fill all orders made and that they would honor all waranties and any program purchases that had already been made.

"...Para Ordinance is the old company name..." No such thing. Para-ORDNANCE when it was started in Canada and promptly ignored the Canadian market. No Canadians allowed into any of the contests they ran in years past.
Not surprised they sold out to Remington after selling out to the U.S. market. Needless to say, Para-Ordnance is not well liked up here.

Don't know much about Para's of days gone by or what the new owner will do to them in the future.
I did pick up a new Para SS Expert for $379 (after rebate) in December.
Very good fit and finish and have had zero problems with it.
I feel I definitely got my money's worth. For me I don't think I would shoot a $4000 1911 any better than my $400 1911

Para USA QC, designs....

I'm not sure why so many US shooters would look down on Para USA models.
I never shot any 1911s but if they are hand-fit, offer a lifetime warranty & have high quality materials they should do better(sales).

I doubt they will continue the semi-handfitting that Para does. Remington is moving production from NC to Huntsville, AL. In just that step they will lose most if not all of the seasoned workers at Para. Similar to when they moved Marlin production. I was/am not a fan of LDA. I would not be surprised if Remington dropped that line despite their promises.

I have a PARA GI Expert and it is very solid. I am not a fan of the blued finish on it though, which they have improved based on most accounts. With my Para, hitting a half gallon paint can on a post at 50 yards become boringly predictable.

1. Para P14-45 in stainless, with hi-viz front sight. Love this pistol, my daily carry for 5 years.

2. Para P10 Warthog in stainless. Fits just right with the pinky extender. Nice backup truck gun.

3. Para P14 Black Ops Recon in nitron finish with a rail and a green laser. Tack driving range toy.

No problems with any of these ever, so I never had to deal with Para customer service. Just flat out reliable good service weapons.

In their defense, I can only imagine the legal nightmare of those contests in Canada.

And to them ignoring the Canadian market; well how much of a market is there, really? I'm from Ontario, my whole family lives there. They're all avid hunters and shooters/outdoorsmen, as are the family friends. I don't know one single person from home that owns a handgun.
