Just curious who the largest firearms manufacturers are in the U.S. Some sites are saying Ruger, but BudsGunShop says they are only #4.

Overseas is it mostly FN and Glock?

Ruger..

You can find many references to quality and sales on their website,
for YEARS running...

They are #1 for a reason.
The best out of the box and easily tricked out if you feel the need.

Ruger by a small margin over Remington according to the pdf linked here. If you wanted to call Freedom Group one company I think Remington/Marlin/NEF would probably be over the top.

Depends: Are you talking units made? gross sales? Profits and stocks?

As mentioned, if you consider the freedom group conglomerate, they are #1 in all categories by a long shot. But that is a dozen companies rolled into one:

AAC (Advanced Armament Corporation)
Barnes Bullets
Bushmaster
Dakota Arms
DPMS s
H & R / NEF
Marlin
Para USA
Parker
Remington
TAPCO

That's a very subjective opinion.

Truth is, Rugers offer very good value, but they don't make the best anything.

what list of Bud's are you looking at. Is it a list of guns sold on Buds website?

I would strongly disagree with that. I like Rugers but the best? At what? Some would say the 10/22 is the best semi-auto .22 but more say the Marlin is better out of the box. I might believe the Ruger MkII was the best target style semi-auto pistol being sold but they don't make them any more. The MkIII has some drawbacks. I do own a LCP which is a very good .380 pocket pistol but the best?? Who knows.

im a bit of a ruger fan boy. but ruger is probably the best affordable manufacturer that produce more than one style of product. yes wilson combat makes a much better 1911 but at like 3x the price. there are better hunting rifles but how many of those companies are also making pistols and ar-15s?

^Budsguns saying Ruger is 4.

As far as Ruger being the best I hardly think so. They put out a good product but are often eclipsed by others in my opinion.
I wouldn't put much stock in that link. They go on to say Ruger has a limited lifetime warranty, which they do not. If they can't get the warranty info right, I don't expect any of the other info to be correct

Sturm, Ruger & Company, Incorporated is a Southport, Connecticut–based firearm manufacturing company, better known by the shortened name Ruger. Sturm, Ruger produces bolt-action, semi-automatic, full-automatic, and single-shot rifles, shotguns, semi-automatic pistols, and single- and double-action revolvers. Ruger is the fourth largest firearms manufacturer in the United States. Ruger firearms have a limited lifetime Manufacturer Defect warranty

The former Freedom Group (Remington, Marlin, Bushmaster, DPMS, etc.) IS now Remington Arms and it's that concern that's the biggest private gun maker in the world. Considerably bigger than Ruger.

#1 in what? Certainly not D/A revolvers, shotguns, semi-auto rifles, semi-auto pistols, etc. They might be #1 in bolt rifles although I suspect Savage still is.

Well, Ruger did make the best black powder cap lock pistol until they discontinued it. They did make some of the better single action revolvers. But yeah, that's about it.

I'll have to take your word for that. I can't keep up with all the junk they do. I just know they created some messes that had to be cleaned up.

And I think that pdf linked in this thread only talks about guns built in the USA. Remington now owns plants all over the world in places like China where they make the NEF/ H&R shotguns they sell. It's a former Norinco plant so who knows what all is made there and whether Remington owns that production too.

With the world economy the way it is knowing the biggest gun maker "in the USA" is certainly not as simple as it once was. It's like the car industry. Your American brand car might well be made in Mexico or wherever. Usually parts of a car are made all over the place. It's nothing like the hey day of the Ford production line where everything was done under one roof. Henry Ford has been dead a long time now.

Freedom Group is not 'a' gun maker.

Ruger is the largest and most successful. Despite what their critics have to say, they must be doing something right to have made a profit every year since 1949. They operate on cash and have no debt.

Nonsense. They make quite a few which might be considered "best" for their price range. They certainly make the best single shot rifle in its price range. The best single action revolvers.

Hence great value; there are better guns out there. As for their single actions, well, I have owned several, still have my .32 H&R single six. Good guns, but far from best. Colt and USFA are definitely superior, and even the Uberti guns above base models are better in many folks' opinion (mine included). I do not miss those clunky Vaqueros and Blackhawks I used to own.

Sure it is. Just as GM is a vehicle maker. The Freedom Group was renamed "Remington Outdoor Company, Inc." in 2014.

Most likely Beretta

Could be Tanfoglio or CZ, too. Both are pretty dang big names here, but even moreso across the pond.

Be interesting to find out.

don't forget the Russians

As a nation, but I can't see any one Russian manufacturer being a major competitor. At least not in the private industry.
