Sig SP2022

We recently had a thread running on the 2022. Go to the search function and search 2022, it should be near the top of the list.

To summarize, rock solid reliable and inexpensive pistol. I recently coached a guy with limited pistol experience using one to qualify for his Concealed Weapons Permit and he did a fine job with it. In SC we fire 50 rounds to qualify. Distance are 3yds, 3 again, 5, 5, 7, 7, 10, 10, 12 and 15. He was still putting some of his shots in the 10 ring at 15 yards. I think it is a great introduction for someone new to the Sig family. A tad large for most people to conceal carry. Just keep in mind it's a totally different trigger system than the XD. Now, stand by for the DA/SA detractors.

If it's any additional water in the bucket, the 2022 in .40 doesn't "snap" like other .40s I've shot (in my opinion). I've loved mine since the day I laid eyes on her in the case at the shop.

One thing to note - beware of IWB without an undershirt. The stippling on the grip can rub your side raw in a hurry.

I have the earlier Sig Pro 2340 with the accessory flashlight and the laser.
Basically the same firearm as the 2022 with different accessory rail. Haven't shot it in awhile. I am debating on reloading 40 cal.
I think I'll take it out this week so I can make up my mind on buying the dies etc..
I suppose it has it's role in my collection but hasn't seen much action in the last few years. This is my collage, I found a large size Hogue Handall slip on sleeve ( very tight ) . Works real nice. Good luck with your 2022.

I like mine and consider it to be one of the best bargain handguns you can get for $400. Mine will shoot anything I feed it and is very accurate too . The trigger is pretty good and I use mine as a house gun.

As pretty much everyone here has said , the SIG Pro series is just about the best value there is in a traditional DA/SA pistol. Very nice trigger pull, very shootable. Just don't tell anybody else

Agreed. I love my 2022 as well. The only thing that took me a while to get the hang of is the decocker feature, which I don't have on any of my handguns except the 2022.

One bit of caution though. The SP2022 is a gateway SIG. Once you have tried it, then it will lead to you wanting to buy the more expensive classic P series SIG's.

The SP2022 in 40 cal is IMO a better gun straight out of the box than even the M&P40 FS.
It is slightly heavier and with an almost 1/3" shorter barrel, the felt recoil is lower. I feel that it more than makes up for any minuscule "higher bore axis". I love how it ejects cases straight out to the right at any power level rather than to the right and rear or sometimes right in your face with other guns.

The SA trigger is fantastic. It sits at the back of the trigger guard just like with a 1911 and has virtually no take up or over travel. It makes for a very accurate shooting gun. Be careful though, you may be tempted to shoot all your shots SA and when you try the DA, you'll think that the trigger will never break and may wind up jerking the gun just to get the shot off. The DA pull is long and heavy but smooth with no surprises other than not breaking until you are nearly pushing against the frame.

Adjusting the sights will require a sight pusher with an 6' breaker bar or an impact wrench. But really, I needed a 12" crescent wrench on the sight pusher to break it free. I thought something would break, but the sight simply would not move unless you give it that much force. Be careful and you won't damage anything. Don't bother with a hammer and brass rod, it won't work.

Magazines are expensive if you can find them. I heard you can modify a Baretta 92 magazine for the 9mm SP2022, so you might be able to do this with something similar.

When you field strip it, the position of the push through slot is not exactly in the locked position, it's a little forward of that spot. Don't try to force the pin through when the slots are not lined up. It will push through easily when the slide is in the right position. You must also compress the recoil spring and push it forward to get it out. There is a small protrusion in the back of the guide rod that aligns it with the barrel assembly.

Lube the barrel hood and where the barrel meets the front of the slide, but no matter how much you do, the finish will wear off quickly. That is not a problem, it is just the sign of the precise fit of the barrel and slide with the Sig pistols. They all do that .

Most of all, shoot it a lot. You will quickly get used to it and it will make shooting a 9 feel like shooting a rimfire.

I agree with everything that has been said. I recently purchased my SP2022 in 9mm from Grab-A-Gun. I ordered it in FDE color because I always wanted a gun in FDE. The color grows on you.. It came with SigLite night sights, 2 mags, holster, and extra different sized grip-swell, all for under $500.00! The gun was dead-nuts accurate right out of the box (see below photos. Those targets are the very first rounds I fired from the gun. I corrected my grip to compensate for the low-left group, but you can't get a much tighter group than that!). The trigger is fantastic, as has been said. This gun is a soft-shooting sweetheart. I also like the De-Cocker. I understand the De-Cocker can be swapped out for a conventional thumb safety, but personally I like it the way it is. I now have over 1000 rounds through the gun without a single problem. It eats any ammo I feed it, from JHP + P's to re-manufactured 115gr. FMJ. I believe this gun is one of the very best values in handguns today, and not many people even know about it. And it's a SIG!!

I had an SP2022 .40 for a while. I sold it a while ago, but not because it wasn't a good gun. I've since had P series Sigs, CZs, USPs, etc, and I can't honestly think of an aspect in which they were vastly superior to the SP2022... Just a real solid SA/DA, especially for the price.

I have an SP 2022 in 9mm and I really like it, accurate, dependable, and in my CCW rotation. I really like it is double action first shot then single action after that. I think it makes it a very safe carry weapon with that arrangement DA/SA. I would like to find a 40S&W in the SP 2022 and then get the 357 sig barrel to go with it.

You won't be disappointed. If you are, Sig will take care of you. I've had mine for 2 years now and have put close to 5k through it. My problem is keeping it clean, as I shoot it so much. Watch your thumb riding the slide lock, I've caught myself attributing my mistakes, to those of the gun (locks open on full mag). Which, in turn, has gotten me plenty of tap n' rack malfunction practice....

Additional comments now that you've had it a spell?

Picked up a 9mm a few days ago and had it out today. Shot really nicely out of the box, nice smooth trigger, clean break. The DA stacks which was a bit annoying because my 3'rd gen SW is even till break. Once accustomed it was pretty easy to keep it pointed and group them consistently. Yes, such a nice shooting gun does bring the drive for other Sig's, the 229 is on the list but shall see. This SP 2022 joins a larger bore Sig 1911 here.
