Does anyone have any experience with a Vortex Diamondback rifle scope? I just recently purchased a Winchester Model 70 Sporter Varmint in .22-250 and I'm looking for some decent glass that won't break the bank. I'm only going to be shooting out to 300 yards. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Barrett,

I have a Vortex 1.75-5 x 32 on my 77/357, and its a fantastic little scope, especially for the price. Its very well made, and the glass is quite bright and clear. Objects do get a little out of focus once you get to the edge of the scope, but contrast is quite good. Of course, this is my first scope, so my experience obviously isn't exhaustive. I am however really big into amateur astronomy, and I don't think the glass gives up much in daylight to my (much more expensive) telescopes.

I don't generally shoot beyond 100-ish yards, but the scope does seem clear enough further away. I know they have a BDC reticle, but again, given my usage that wasn't really necessary for me.

I have 3 Vortex scopes and plan to buy 2 more I have 2 that are 4-12x40 AO and a 6.5x20x50 They are fantastic Ive shot out to 600yds with the 6.5x20 and 300 yds with the other 2, You just cant beat a life time warranty and the glass is good and clear

my personal experience is that a diamonback is a better scope than a burris ff2, a sightron s1, and a mueller apv. I think it's better than my nitrex tr1 (which is either a rebadged weaver classiv or grand slam, depending on who you ask) but they are such different powers it's hard to say. Vortex also has terrific customer service.

also, this comparison is from a few years ago, and you may have seen it already, but it is still fairly relevant: http://opticsthoughts.com/?page_id=77

Thanks for the help guys! And greyling I actually saw a link to that comparison on another forum but the link wasn't good. I'm glad you linked that! Thanks

I have a Vortex riflescope (Viper PST 2.5-10x32 FFP), a Vortex monocular (Solo R/T), a red dot (SPARC) and two 3x magnifiers (the original VMX3 and the replacement, the VMX-3T).

Vortex compares favorably to more expensive products, and I would not hesitate to purchase that Diamondback.

I have tried quite a few different variations, Diamondback, Viper's, Razor, and Crossfire, and on a fair number of rifles also. My conclusion is they still need to work on things a bit, cause I can't get them to shoot worth a darn for me. I thought maybe it was just me, cause my vision is awful, there's no denying that. But I've had others shoot the same glass and on the same rifles, and the results are the same, blurry with lots of image / reticle shift.

There customer service is top notch though, I've sent like 3 scopes in, and they had them back in my hands in about 10 - 14 days.

At least for now, I think I'm gonna stick with Leupold.

So far my Vortex experience has been good. My first purchase was a pair of RAZOR Binoculars which persuaded me to buy a Viper 3-9x40mm for a friend. I used that scope extensively to work up a load for her rifle and was impressed with it. Since then I've bought three more Vortex products including a PST 6-24x50mm FFP, a PST 4-16x50mm FFP and a Spitfire 1x. I don't consider the glass in the PST scopes to be as good as my older Leupold Mark 4s (more distortion at the edges) but it's good enough and the scopes are feature packed for the money. If you can afford it I would suggest you step up to the Viper line. If I didn't already have four Zeiss Conquest scopes I'd be buying Vipers for my hunting rifles.

Well gents, I got a Vortex Viper VHS 6X24X50 about 6 weeks ago, best scope I've ever owned. I have it on Rem. 788 .223. After having a smith friend get bases and rings for it, also bore sighted it, I went to the range to "see" how this setup worked. At 50 yards, just to make sure I was on the paper, I got the thrill of my life, 3 rounds into "one" hole. Took target to 100 yards, was again impressed with it, 4 rounds into one hole, the 5th round was "just penetrating" those other 4, needless to say I was ecstatic at this range session. I then went to a close by P-dog town, took my first, with this scope, P-dog at approx. 185 yards, red mist. Weather being cold and rainy/snowy the past 2 weeks, I haven't had a chance to really get out with it again, summer's coming though !!!

Vortex has a great warranty, which is good, because I find they often need it. Leupold also has a great warranty, which is also good, but you rarely need to use it.
