This project will be outside of anything I've built before. Everything else has been Germanic, Bavarian, Pre-War American Classic style. But, he's a kid and a kids eye looks at things differently. Stock is by Boyds in Sky Blue with ribbon checkering, adj. cheekpiece (figured that could come in handy).
Metal is a German large ring Mauser with a Shilen tube in .243.
Still in progress, coming up is glass bedding, a tribute engraving of some sort along the barrel flat, trigger guard and rust blue of everything prior to final assembley.
Scope and rings are on hand, Hopefully once I am done with this I can convince his sisters to build one for them, until then they can always use this one to try out hunting as my boy is only 2.

Very nice!

I'm thinking of a rifle for my girl, she is 4 now and has a bow, but you know how it is :)

I do have an early serial number Sako Vixen that needs a bit of TLC.

Usually not a big fan of colored stocks but I really like the look of that Sky Blue stock. Your son will have something to look forward when he's old enough to start using that rifle. Thanks for sharing!

Interesting build, looking forward to seeing more. What rust blueing solution are you planing on using,I'm about to start down that road myself. Also how is that laser checkering on the Boyds stock,is it functional (sharp)or mostly cosmetic? I have a few projects in mind and Boyds seems like a good option for some.

Usually use Pilkington's but I might try the Mark Lee no.1 on this one.
The checkering while obviously done via machine or laser is actually sharp and pointed.

Nice. The good thing about doing this is that as he becomes an adult, he can put on an adult stocke and it will still be a very nice rifle to take out he will still have the wood stock from his childhood days m
