Guys,

Traveling across the country this summer and have both Utah and Florida CCW licenses, so legal in the states I'm traveling through.

Have a Crossbreed Supertuck for my Glock 19, but don't want to wear an IWB holster hours a day while driving my Tahoe.

I've seen a couple of set-ups that allow under steering column mounting of holsters, and it seems like a good way to carry while driving.

Anyone use one of these set-ups? Any brand/style you'd recommend? I'm kind of short on time these days and would prefer a ready-made, install in an hour arrangement, rather than a multi-hour DIY homegrown project.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Find a skilled (custom) car audio/video tech and get them the holster you want to use. They should hook you up without much trouble. I mounted a few way back in the day. The holster will probably not be able to be used for anything else after the install.
- Don't haggle on the price they quote.:fire:
- Cash tips were greatly appreciated.:)

There is a thing called Zip-Ties available cheaply at any hardware or big box store.

If you can't strap any holster you have to any steering column with a bag of zip-ties in a few minutes?

They need to revoke your Man-Card!!

With all respect rc, have you looked under the dash of a car lately? The exposed steering column is a thing of the past. I think the last ones were the Ford pickups of the late 70's. By the mid 80's the underside of a dash was a puzzle of cheap plastic and stamped sheet metal with nice burrs everywhere.

AHHHHHHH!!!!!
You got me!!!

No, I have not explored the steering column of a modern econo-box car.

My fairly new Dodge Hemi-Sport 400 HP 4x4 pickup has an exposed steering column with adjustable wheel angle.
Plenty of room to zip-tie a holster of any normal size under it if you needed to.
Or you can stick a Glock in the crack under the steering wheel with the tilt angle up.

But of course you don't need too.

Dual door pockets within easy reach.
A center console door within easy reach.

And a mid-size pistol or revolver storage trey right in front of the floor-shift lever.

I guess if you drive a Pyrus, you might not be able to zip-tie a holster to the steering column??
But I really have no idea. :D

Dodge at least, still makes 4x4 trucks with all kinds of gun storage close at hand.

rc, here in Tejas, we must keep our handgun completely hidden, not exposed or able to be seen with the doors open for people that have their gun in a car. CHL holders must remain concealed at this point as well. That might change shortly as open carry will most likely become legal for CHL holders. Who knows what details will be part of a new law though.

I haven't done custom audio video work in decades. Does your Dodge have dash gaps that will fit a Glock?

I have the Gumcreek rig mentioned by Water-man and it works well. I just bought the mount, without the holster, as I already had a holster for my gun. It will work with any holster that has a belt loop. Available in a number of places online, including Amazon.

Check out the NRA online store. They have a holster designed for the steering column.

I don't have any experience with this gun magnet, but it looks interesting and has great reviews. Several reviewers say they using it under the dash just like you are talking about doing. I also like the idea that when you don't have your pistol on it the thing doesn't look like an empty holster hanging under your dash. And it's cheap enough, might be worth a try.

I've been using the Magna-Arm in my SUV for several years now. Strong enough to hold my G19 for the ready while driving.

Holds just as well today as when I put it on awhile back. Developed & sold by a veteran-owned company :D

I like the looks of that magnet set-up. Does it attach by some means other than the two screws? Does it hold secure over rough roads or speed bumps?

It came with the two screws and they were OK for my installation needs.
I'm sure you could get some machine screws & nuts for attachment if you wanted to.
I've gone over speed bumps & through my share of winter potholes ~ hasn't come loose yet

Gerry, I hope that both of those permits are resident ones (or that the FL one is a non-res.). Florida no longer accepts non-res from Utah, despite what many may think.

I use industrial strength velcro mounted to the dash of my 2014 Silverado,.....low center... with mating piece sewn to a nylon Uncle Mikes with retention strap. That way if need be, I can pull pistol and holster. Holds securely, easy to reach. Have to look hard to see it from outside of the truck. Ymmv....
