Hello everyone. I'll be purchasing a brand new 45 Winchester magnum early next year and have to start finding reloading components for it. I noticed that Hornady's dies for the 45 win mag are the same dies used for the 45 auto. I already have RCBS dies for 45 auto and want to know if they can be used for the 45 win mag too. RCBS does make special dies just for the 45 win mag but they are extremely expensive, so I'd prefer not to buy them.

I really didn't see a problem re-opening this thread even though it started as a question regarding dies for 45 Win Mag. Just wondering if reload this caliber and what you've had success with.

Currently, I'm working up loads using 4227 and 800X because that's what I have, with AA9 on the way. But, based on what has been published for 44 Mag as well and consider those loads equivalent, I see Titegroup, HP-38 and Universal (Hodgdon online mostly).

Has anyone tried these faster powders in 45 Mag? Seems you'd be getting 50% case fill at best, but that's not necessarily a problem. Heck, I just saw a 454 Casull load (published) using Bullseye. That one was a surprise.

Who's loading 45 Mag and what are you shooting it in? I'll be shooting in the Grizzly when it gets here.

So far, some 230 gr RN cast, 200 gr RNFP and some 200 gr XTPs are lined up ready to go.

.45 Win Mag: one Wildey and three Grizzlies.
Most accurate powder: 2400
Most accurate bullet: 240gn
Wildey likes 250gn JHP and 23.0gn 296/H110
Grizzlies all like 240gn JHP/JHC and 18.3gn 2400
Only "failure" was 200gn J-SWC--not an accurate bullet with any powder except 2400.
