Recently picked up a 16 ga flint pistol made in Germany. Says Hi Hunter buccaneer on it. Sparks good but has an aluminum lock plate. I don't see any proof marks but haven't removed the barrel yet. Thought all German guns were required to have proof marks. Figured maybe 30 grains of 1f with a patched round ball.

buggered if i know but sounds like one of those non firing replica things?

German Mfg Hy Hunter Repro Flintlock Buccaneer Pistol
The pistol was imported in the 1960's from Germany by Hy Hunter of Hollywood California and is marked Buccaneer Model. It is very clean overall with light staining on the barrel. The wood finish has some light storage marks. The lock is working. The pistol is about 17" overall and weighs a hefty 4 lbs 6 oz. The caliber is roughly .75. It doesn't appear to have been fired, and we don't know if it is safe to do so.

Sold as a collectors item only with no representations as to its safety to shoot or use.

After rehardening the frizzen, I've fired mine with blank loads, but I'm not sure I'd trust it with a ball. The spring seems a little weak in mine as well. It's mostly a prop for doing pirate reenactment.

Pull the barrel, look for proof marks. If it's not proofed I wouldn't trust it to stay together. I would love to see one in action though.

If all comes to worse, proof test it before using it. Dixie Gun Works has instructions in its catalog.

Hy Hunter...we have a bingo

No problem. Glad it helped. Let us know how it shoots and send pictures of gun and target.

Have a Blessed day:)
