Finally got off my laurels and left the dreaded NE for warmer climates. Thus my dilemma begins.

I have been to every store in the immediate area and I have seen everything from Velcro to Kydex but I have not seen any leather for CCW of an old classic such as the S&W mod 10. What little was available was for modern race guns like the Glock and M&P, otherwise nada zip zero.

My question is why am I striking out? Old S&W detective rigs and shoulder holsters aren't new, so where did they go and where can I find one?

Very few stores stock good holsters. You'll need to luck out at a gun show or order the holster.

I carried a M-66 in a Bianchi Shadow holster under a short uniform jacket for some time. No one ever spotted the gun.

For open carry, I'd look for a nice used old Safariland Model 29 or Bianchi Model 5BHL. (The lined, basketweave version of the basic Model 5.)

El Paso Saddlery makes good holsters for open wear and I think their concealment rigs are probably pretty good, too.

I have one of their Model 2's I think it is, like the old Safariland Model 29. It's for a Chief's Special with three-inch barrel. It'd probably conceal pretty well, and a K-frame size should, too.

Photos on the main S&W board do support the post here about Lobo Leather and he is a member of the board and makes very intelligent, articulate, helpful posts. A guy I know on that board has a couple of Lobo holsters and loves them.

Stay away from Kydex. A Kydex sheath I have scratched a knife blade.

Unless you usually wear a long jacket, you'll need an inside-pants rig for that M-10.

If OP was looking for a truly modern, efficient and effective CCW method...especially in SWFL, he would likely choose something other than the venerable M10SB ;). I'll assume "cheapskate" is not the reason for the quest as he dismisses the cheesy nylon holsters found about everywhere. I'd suspect then it's a matter of nostalgia...a perfectly acceptable "reason" to choose the M10SB...if one is willing to make the necessary adjustments for the "unique" temperature...and of course, humidity :( of SWFL. That being the case...to my mind anyway, best bet is to cruise...OMG , ebay...where there are usually older Safariland/Bianchi/Hume, even Roy Baker...and like, holsters to be found.

Lest these suggestions come off as insulting K-Frame S&Ws, I'll point out they come from the owner of 27 K-Frame revolvers...7 being M10s ;):D. And...at each LEOSA qual I'm sure to qualify with a revolver...almost always a 3" M13RB, to allow for that option when nostalgia strikes :p:D.....

Sub-MOA : you would be correct in your belief that I prefer a S&W mod 10 3" above all else, and can shoot some really tight groups with this particular antiquated but no less effective means of personal defense. I do have a couple of Hume and Safariland holsters in my repertoire but I ride my Harley almost daily. Thus my conundrum, and I was looking for a twin holster shoulder rig so I could have the option of a NY reload. That and like most Harley enthusiasts I just prefer leather. I have plenty of saddle soap and mink oil ;)
I do prefer all steel pistols from Hi-Powers Colts S&Ws, they just feel right and shoot better for me than combat plastic excluding the FNP-9. :what:
I will eventually find what I'm after.

I don't remember the brand of this paddle holster but it holds my S&W 12 and 19 very securely and the butt has to be rotated slightly forward to release from the rig. If you grab and pull straight out it will not release.

"...where did they go..." Leather got really expensive. And requires hand making.
Leather doesn't scratch anything. It polishes the bluing off. snicker.
You can make a good leather holster without much fuss. Takes few special tools other than the needles and hole punches. Tandy's sells all of it. Including holster patterns.
Don't forget the belt.

Sunray we are discussing shoulder rigs so I'm not sure how the belt holding up my pants comes into play?
