Am I the only one who can't get into subcompact automatics because of the dangling pinky?

Some people who like subcompacts make it a point to shoot EVERY gun without using the pinky, even if it's a full-size grip. I don't LOVE subcompacts, but I'm not opposed to them either. My biggest problem with a gun that size is the concern of pinching the meat of my palm when I seat a magazine.

Forget about that little pink.

Don't mind him uh-tawl.

Just pertend like it got cut off, I means nothing to your shooting grip... it means nothing to your shooting grip (rinse and repeat for best results).

I have smaller hands and only get 2 fingers around the grip of a G42. The addition of an after market mag plate with pinky extender solved the problem!! I get 3 fingers in a secure grip. Total cost $7.

It would bother me if I didn't have pinky rests on my M & P 40C mags.I could live with it however. That is why I like my PT 111 G 2 so much. It feels more normal to me.

Don't be this guy:

"I just wrap mine under the mag."
Are you mad? That's the kaboom blowoff valve you're blocking! :p

JTQ nailed it, it's not just the dangling pinky that's an issue, it's the pinched skin in the palm of your hand when you slam a reload home. First time I did that I almost threw the gun down.

I'm not a big guy so on the compacts, I think I use my pinky to guide the reload home. Once the mag is home, yeah, I curl my pinky under the floorplate.

I don't particularly like small pinky hanging grips, but on a carry a carry gun, where conceilability is a factor, I can live with it. Small frame revolvers come to my mind here.

Recoil becomes relatively more snappy, but that just means you have to practice more.

For a gun that I use soley on the range for pure enjoyment, a full grip is a must. I have some small semi autos that offer a mag extension to create the illusion of a full grip. Those are nice too. Often times they only increase the area of the front part of the grip, so conceilablity is barely effected.

On my XDS-45 I put Pearce Extentions on the 5 rd mags and it made a huge difference. I for one couldn't stand my little finger hanging off but now it doesn't. But I really don't need them now that SA has come out with 6 rd mags which are the same length as the 5 rd mag plus extention, and I bought a few of them to try out.

My Shield with the short magazine in sits on top of my curled up pinky, like a handy rest. Doesn't bother me at all.

If it were a hair longer in the grip, that might not be possible, and I'd probably find it annoying to have my pinky hanging off in space.

I cannot stand it either.... I will never own a single "pocket" gun because of it.

I carry the Shield with the 8 round mostly. Do prefer the full grip.

Though, I'm thinking about getting one of the puny .380s for occasional pocket carry due to back issues.

Do all you guys who prefer a full grip carry a duty-sized handgun?
I think most prefer a full grip, and just deal with the smaller guns. I carry a Glock 17, and a 26 as its back up. I dislike the 19's, because its grip is cramped, and my pinkie is sort of in limbo. I dont get a "full" grip, but I cant wrap it under.

I find the 26, with my pinkie wrapped under, feels natural, is very comfortable and controllable.

I tried the Pierce extensions when I got my first 26. Besides defeating the purpose of the smaller gun by making them bigger, they pinched my hand, both while shooting, and reloading. I dont have the issue with the factory base plates.

Majority of the time I carry a Commander. The rest of the time a XDs9 w the 8rd mag.
