Got this PT111 G2 in yesterday and figured I'd do a little post about it. Was on sale for $199 with free shipping and for that price I couldn't pass it up :).

I took it to the range this evening and put 100 rounds through it (all were 147gr reloads) - gun ran flawlessly. Accuracy was good. Feel in the hand was pretty good too. It's pretty much the smallest grip length I can go and still get an uncramped full grip on the gun. The texture on the grip feels very aggressive. I doubt you'd need any grip tape or other such additions on this grip. The LCI is also nice. Same position and style as my SR9 but it doesn't stick up nearly as far. It's still in the "tasteful" category versus the "obnoxious" LCI on the SR :).

Overall it feels very well built and well worth the price. Only negatives for me were:

- It has a thumb safety. Not thrilled about that but it is what it is.
- There was a bit of mold flash here and there on the frame. Most of it I easily picked off with my fingers. No huge deal.
- The double-action pull on it is atrocious. Not really heavy, but very, very gritty. On the other hand you'll never see this trigger mode unless its for a second strike, otherwise it's in SA mode which isn't as bad. There's a good deal of take-up and the break is rather far back, but its tolerable.
- Plastic sights. There aren't any good aftermarket options out there so replacement isn't necessarily an option, but I'll live with them. Glocks cost 3x as much as this gun and still comes with plastic sights. FWIW they are adjustable though.

Overall I may well end up working this into my carry rotation pending some more function testing. It's my smallest 9mm at this point (I normally carry an LCP - this is a nice size between that and my full-sized 9mm's).

Just an FYI, a Glock (non .45) front sight can replace the plastic front sight on the G2. May require one or two quick swipes with a file but that's all. I used a Glock tritium front sight purchased on Amazon for less than $40 as a replacement.

BTW, I'm far from a Taurus fan, but this gun has performed flawlessly over the course of a couple of years and 600-700 rounds. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine.

Thanks for the post mgmorden. These have been tempting me for months just because they are so inexpensive. I can't buy anything right now but I may have to check one out.

Got my G2 a little over a month ago and am very pleased with it.
Check out the triangle sights produced by Advantage Tactical. Midway sells them. I was thinking about them but now that I've got my stock sights adjusted, I'll blow the $80 on something else.
For a smoother trigger pull just use the tip of your index finger. I'm kind of sloppy with finger placement and had been using the first joint. In doing so, the grittiness or any trigger stiffness seemed more pronounced. In using just the tip, that went away. Maybe my first joint pull was working against me and binding things up.
All in all, this gun has excellent fit and finish and the ergo feel is natural to my palm.

I'm loving mine, too. Haven't had it that long, but just today I made it my EDC. For me, it's doable as an IWB carry. If I'm carrying OWB with a good holster, I guess I'd prefer my Ruger SR9c, but the smaller size of the G2 is a real positive and makes all the difference in some carry scenarios. For me, the only negative is the somewhat loose fit of the mags, which is just more distracting than anything else.

I'm hoping that Taurus will come out with a G2 version of the PT 145. I'd buy one, even though I currently have 145. BTW, I have a really awesome Kirkpatrick holster for my 145 that should work OK for my 111, should I ever descide to carry it OWB.

Bought mine when they first came out (nearly 2 years ago?). It was half the price of the S&W Shield, but my local gun shops didn't have the S&W available. Bought it and a Serpa holster for the XD9, and added some velcro loop inside the holster where the slide would contact the top side of the slide. Cut the bottom of the holster to fit flush with the muzzle.

Carried for a while in place of the G26, took my wife shooting with it and her 2Gen G19. She shot so much better with the Taurus that it is now her's and I am back to carrying the G26, and I am also back to having 2 G19's again!

The trigger on the G2 is similar to the Glocks, and the second strike ability is not a bad thing. It is very accurate, loads easy, and feels very good in my hands (6'3"). Might get another, but I am back to carrying the G26 with the Glock +2 bases, and the Glock is just a bit wider than the G2. I will carry the G2 in a belly band or Kangaroo holster, as I don't mind the safety. Great value for a 12 round 9mm.

Only issue I have is that I can't load 12+1 in the G2. The mag is a bit tight with 12 and a closed slide. 11+1 works fine for me.

Between my Son and I we have had several of these, and all ran flawlessly, even with my full tilt Longshot loads, including 90 gr, 115 gr., 124 gr., and 147 gr., XTP's.

I didn't like the triggers at all, very crunchy. And the trigger guard kept digging into my finger, not much room, even for my small fingers.

Comparing the PT-111 to another budget priced 9mm, the SCCY-CPX1. It was just as uncomfortable to shoot with full tilt loads, but that's mostly because they're so small. But the trigger guard was longer and didn't bite me every time I pulled the trigger. Tested with the same full tilt Longshot loads, they ran flawlessly.

In comparison, the trigger on the SCCY was was a night and day difference, with the PT-111 being the night. Seriously, the trigger on the SCCY was very smooth and silky in comparison.

I also thought the workmanship was much cleaner than the PT111.

My neighbor bought one of these guys a few months back. I put 3 mags down range when he brought it home and he shot it 4 or 5 also. Pretty accurate and a nice size IMHO. Quality seems pretty good.

Only problem with it for me is the memory of my Gen3 PT145 kept rushing back with every shot wondering if it was going to jam on the next round.

I just picked up another one. They are definitely worth more than they are currently selling for. The PT11g2 is nicely sized for the firepower it packs (12+1).

I have been reading lots of positive comments about the Millennium G2. Taurus seems to have worked out all the bugs on this model.

I had a PT 145 about nine years ago and it always worked fine for me. I wondered how they were able to cram ten rounds into those itty bitty magazines.

$199 is an amazing price; if I saw a PT 111 for that price I would have to buy it on general principle. It makes me wonder if I can sell my USP Compact 9x19mm and pocket the difference... hmm.

They keep popping up for $199

Palmetto had them on sale this morning for 199 but at that price they sell out in an hour

Yeah GrabAGun had them for $199 recently too. I got mine from GunBuyer.com (first time I'd even heard of them but the transaction was smooth).

Honestly it may be the most gun I've ever gotten for the money. I have better guns but I paid more for all of them.

PT 111 Gen 2

I have a PT111-Gen 2 and I love it. It has digested everything I fed it-All my hand-loads. For the price I paid ($248) shipped from Bud's it is a steal.I saw it cheaper but they are gone in hours. I don't have a debit/credit card so I miss out on those quick bargains. The weapon feels better in my outside the belt holster than my M & P 40C. The only negative to me is the safety. It is as accurate and dependable as any other handgun I own.I was previously considering the Taurus PT 709 Slim but decided on the PT111 because it came with 2 mags and it's 12+1 capacity. I am not yet a Taurus fan but I do like the PT 11 Gen-2.:)

I shot one at a gun shop open house, the Taurus rep had new guns to try. I liked it, but I liked the G2 .45 Compact better. Couldn't justify the $$ between that and the PT145 I carry now, though.

Just finally got to shoot mine today. Definitely "combat accurate" for me, and I'm VERY new to handguns. Sights still need to be adjusted, didn't have time before sundown to get them just right.

After shooting it with me, my father-in-law now wants to pick one up.

I really want to like one. I really want to give one a chance. I just can't get over the burning I've taken multiple times in the past on Taurus pistols. Maybe if I find one I can shoot before buying.

I obviously haven't had mine long, but in addition to me being impressed my father-in-law (a much more experienced shooter) was incredibly impressed, as I mentioned above he wants one now. Time will tell if it has transcended Taurus's past issues, but for $200 I don't think it gets any better.

One thing that really impressed me was the felt recoil. It was just about the same as my B6P, very manageable for a compact 9mm.

I've had great luck with my Taurus PT-145 Millennium Pro. That pistol has never failed to feed and fire except one time it struck a round and it didn't fire. It did fire on the second strike. It had to be an issue with the cartridge IMO because I've run quite a few rounds through that gun and it's never done that again.

For $200 I might try to pick up a 9mm version of what I have. I've been wanting a 9mm. I think I can get my wife to shoot it better than the Ruger LCP she wanted for a CCW gun. She has a hard time with that gun because the grip is too small. The Taurus Millennium line has a very good reputation. Like most people I was very skeptical at first about buying a Taurus but the LGS owner gave me such a deal I couldn't pass trying the gun out. He gave me a 30 day trial period. I had been looking for a Glock but couldn't find one that fit my hand. The Taurus worked great in my hand. Plus the capacity it has for it's size is just amazing. That owner knew I would never bring that gun back. I love that thing even if it does say Taurus on it.

The only people who hate or dislike the PT 111 are those who refuse to buy one because Taurus makes it and or because of the price point which they correlate with being unreliable and low quality... I have one in stainless that I got on sale from Bud's for $212. Very accurate, low recoil, very reliable, excellent erogos, restrike capiblity, and almost the same size and weight of my Shield, but holds 4-5 extra rounds all for $200....

It's true that this line of pistols is very good. But I've seen some real clunkers that came from Taurus. I think most of us have. If you were one of the people that got burned on a Taurus you'd probably dislike the company too. Again I was very hesitant to buy one myself. But I'm glad I bought the one I did.

This gun is talking me into buying it.

I have a Shield for edc and that wont be replaced.

But the price is outstanding for the Taurus.

I have a 738 TCP .380 and I had to send it back, after
100 rounds it started to missfeed on the 3rd or 4th round.

They polished the feed ramp, got it back in 2 weeks ,
and 1 missfeed on the first mag, it was dry. I oiled it
and 6 more mags and no problems.

For $250 to me its worth the chance to take on it.

That's my big problem. I just don't know if I want to take the chance. I've been burned three times, if it happens a fourth I would really feel stupid. I have to admit though, I am leaning towards trying one.

The gun is worth it I have it as a EDC since it gave me no trouble with any rounds I put through it and is as accurate as $600 Glocks and XDs I used to own and shoot. Taurus struck a home run with this model its not perfect but its far better than most guns you can get in its price range. Taurus is improving ten fold and one day will be close to Ruger once they work out all its customer service and quality control issues it still has on certain models.

Thanks for your experience and input. I currently carry an LC9 most of the time but would like something just a little bigger for days that I'm looking for a little more firepower. It seems one of these may fill that need. I'm gonna do some looking around and see if I can find one to shoot.
