Since the old one got closed (by Robert) here's the new thread

Who's acquired 22LR recently? Where from? Any deals going around? Post where at! Don't talk about shooting it or practice, let's talk about finding it.

The Lawton, OK Academy store always has some .22 LR ammo in stock. They frequently have bulk cartons of Remington, Federal or Winchester.

Cabelas in Columbus has quite a bit of MiniMags and other stuff. Some Federal, Eley, etc..

I picked up a 325 count box of Federal Auto Match two weeks ago at Gander Mountain in LaCrosse, WI while on vacation. Shelves are still empty here in Kansas City.

You can find all you want around here and on-line for $0.10 per shot. I don't consider it reasonable, its more cost per round than I can reload 9mm, and half the cost of 9mm FMJ "on-sale".

But the fact that the high cost .22lr is sitting on the shelves is a good start. Academy and Walmart does sell .22lr ammo at "reasonable" $0.05 per round, but they also still have quantity limits and it doesn't stay in stock for very long.

Based on history the cheapest .22lr should run about 1/4th or 1/5th the cost of the cheapest 115gr 9mm FMJ -- Back in the good old Bush days circa 2006, Academy had CCI Aluminum Blazer 9mm for $3.86/50 "everyday low price" and usually some brand of .22lr "on-sale" at $8.99 for a brick of 500.

Picked up a 325 pack of federal for $0.06/rd from Bob's in Norfolk the other day.

Texas

Friends and family in Texas have been doing quite well getting bulk .22lr at many places like Walmart. They use the old buddy-system to get past the per-customer limits and have stocked up many thousands of rounds over the past year or so.

Ammo alerts?

WT...? Just got 52 ammo alerts from wikiammo. Most on line dealers .05 to .12 rd.
Here's a question, how can different on line retailers sell Thunder duds and SK+ both for .12 rd? Do people not know the difference? And before anyone says Thunder duds or Golden bullets shoot just as good, I shoot State level .22 Competitions and NO ONE shoots either of those. Most shoot Wolf or Luppa

I have not seen any in northern Indiana stores in quite some time. I remember, once .22lr was like the stars, now it has gone the way of the buffalo...

Cheapest at wikiarms is .078 / rd

Been finding enough to get me by. But one silver lining of the twentytwo shortage...... it has pushed me into getting back into airguns and cap&ball shooting, which had languished for years. Variation and choice are good things! :)

Natchez HAD Federals for .05/rd, I'm sure they sold out quick. I just picked up 2 bricks of SK+ from The Armory for $60 / brick plus $8 shipping for two. They had case lots for $599. All sold out now. Great place to order from, fast and resonable shipping. Will definitely order from them again.

Very nice. I like the Golden Bullet, personally. They run decently in my very picky Sig 22LR conversion slides.

Where did you get it?

Before Walmart took .22LR out of their online inventory, I was able to use their website on a regular basis to locate ammo at the stores near me. It helps to know the delivery schedule for the Walmart store and check when the trucks normally arrive. Many times repeated searches in the evening would show no .22LR ammo in stock and then suddenly it would show up.

What is nice about their inventory system is that as soon as a driver drops a trailer and the store manager accepts delivery - the location for all of the items in that trailer switch to being in stock. So a Walmart store can show that they have ammo in stock when actually it is still in the trailer.

The effect of this though is that you have anywhere from an hour to three hours to get to the store before the ammo actually appears on the shelf.

As I said, many times a repeated search in the evening would show no .22LR ammo in stock and then suddenly it would show up. I'd get in my car and go to Walmart, the ammo cabinet wouldn't have any .22LR displayed but I would ask a clerk to scan the label. (You have to know which .22LR is arriving so you can ask them to scan the correct item). When they scanned the label their scanner would report that the item was in stock, so I'd ask if they could check the truck for ammo. Sometimes they'd tell me that it might take an hour or so to unload the trailer before they could even get to the ammo and I'd wait while they unloaded other freight.

Eventually they'd come out with boxes or a box of ammo and the .22LR would be in there.

Many customers walk by the ammo cabinet and if there isn't any .22LR visible, they assume that there isn't any and they walk away - not knowing that the ammunition is just a few hundred feet away in a trailer parked in the unloading dock.

The Wikiarms link says that Walmarts removal of .22LR is temporary.

I recently got my two 525 packs of Federal Champion from MidwayUSA, for $22 and change per, lowest price I have seen on a bulkpack or brick in ages! They sold out quick, but using my cell phone right when the "Notify" came over, I managed to get in under the wire. Gotta jump QUICK!! :)

Last year, I got two 500-round cans of SK too, but haven't tried it yet. Never used that brand before, so it remains in my emergency stash for now. I paid $45 per 500rd. can plus shipping.

I have been lucky the last few days with 22LR. Was able to get my 3 - 100 round sleeves of CCI minimags for $7.47 each at walmart. Then the next day I found the Remington bucket of bullets (not a huge fan of these but it was a good price) at Fleet Farm for $66.00 for 1400 rounds. Much better pricing than I have seen in quite a long time in MN.

Farm & Fleet rocks!

Farm & Fleet rocks! When I call there, the people are knowledgeable about 22 ammo and they tell me if they have it in stock or not and they usually have some in stock.

When I was trying to get enough ammo for my kids to do an Appleseed shoot I was able to get the .22LR at Farm & Fleet.

I used to love Remington Golden Bullets. I'd buy them at Coast to Coast hardware store and they were, well... they were golden. I never had a problem with them, they just worked in every 22 I had.

Maybe I just got a bad box recently, but it seems the new Golden Bullets are not the same. The cases had marks on them, the bullets seemed awfully wobbly in the case - I can spin the bullet 360° in the case where I can't do that with CCI. I get the occasional dud with the Remington Golden Bullets now.

But those SK rounds are all greasy and won't cycle some AR style 22s, especially when dumping the mag. Seriously most people can't shoot worth a damn and wouldn't notice the difference. I have heard a ridiculous number of complaints over SK and Lapua ammo from plinkers. Some people have ruined accuracy by wiping that wonderful lube off. SK Standard+ is for shooting sub half inch groups at 50 yards. If people don't have the rifle or skill to do that, it's best they stay away from it.

I called corporate Walmart this morning and asked them why .22LR ammunition was no longer in their online inventory (I'm not talking about it being out-of-stock, I'm talking about .22LR not even being an inventory item at all).

So the guy I spoke to spoke to his supervisor and he said that Walmart didn't have any .22LR ammuntion, they didn't have any to send to local stores and they hoped to get some soon. He also said they hoped to get it back in the online inventory system soon. He also said "a lot of customers are calling about this issue."

How would they know if they could with shooting junk ammunition?

Young guy shooting our Silhouette league was struggling using bulk Remington and Federal ammo. Earlier in the season I gave him 50 rds of Agulia Match to try. After re-sighting his scope adjustments he shot a MUCH better round.

He has been shooting mid level target ammo ever since.
