I owned a S&W pre-14 a few years back that I loved, then I foolishly sold it. That darn revolver was so accurate it made even me look good. I've had seller's remorse ever since.

Well, I just happened to park across the street from a local gun store this morning, by accident of course. Then I accidentally, again, opened the door to this gun store and walked in, by accident.

There she was, a model 14. Included the original box but not the original grips. I couldn't resist; $575 and she's in my safe. I sure hope she shoots as good as the one I sold :)

Thought I'd share the story and a couple pictures with you folks.

Nice Model 14 , I never met a Masterpiece that could not shoot better than I can. My Model 14 is the last gun I would ever part with.

Nice story, even nicer gun! Hope it's another tackdriver as your first one was.

Thanks all for the kind words. Anyone know what grips this one most likely came with? On the box the stocked is marked as "S".

It would have probably had Magna stocks. I think the "S" stands for "Standard" but that's pretty much a SWAG. Magna's and a T-grip would be nice looking and functional. But the targets ain't bad either.

I don't have a 14, but do have a 15, which is pretty much a 4" version of the same thing. Great guns, that's for sure.

Even going backwards to "buy back in"...

Think how much more you'll appreciate this new beauty.

Good for you!

Todd.

You could remove the grips and see if the serial number is on the inside of the grip .

Well, the first clue these were not the original grips is the pistol would not fit in the serial number matched box:eek:. The "S" was also a clue as these are target grips I think, probably would say "T".

They are dandies Bike! I scored a 6" 14 about 6 months ago, made in '51, not shot much either, the face of the cylinder still has factory bluing on it. Enjoy!

Very nice gun..Great deal. too. I've been wanting a 14 for awhile..In the early Adam 12 series, Malloy and Reed carried the 14, I believe it was the LAPD standard back then. Great shooting revolver..

Funny-ish story on my pre-14. I met a bud in Portland, OR a few years back at a shooting range. It was one of those days, I'm sure you've all had one, or two, or more, where I could not miss. He watched me put up a 10 yard group where the last 4 rounds went though the same hole with that old pre-14, double-action to boot.

My mission-impossible with this 14, which I've decided to accept, is to repeat the feat and thereby put another smile on my mug :)

Great gun. I have two, an 8 3/8" 14 and a 6" Target Masterpiece. Both are extremely accurate and very well made. Even though single action is the natural way to fire one of these, IMO they were considered something of a flagship gun and got extra attention during assembly because both of mine have exceptionally smooth double action pulls. Here's a pic of the long one:

Enjoy your new gun.

Beautiful! Nothing like a S&W revolver! Never had a 14, had two gorgeous 19-4's though. Currently have a new 586-? and a police trade-in 10-8.

A 1951 gun is my grail gun as it is my birth year. If you ever decide to part with it please let me know.
